Are you talking genealogy reports? If so, it depends on which parent you click on before choosing the genealogy report.

You can choose either parent but I think you are correct in that you can't choose both because for example the father may have had other children from another marriage which may have nothing to do with a previous/subsequent wife.

I think the line comes from the father if the children have his surname as it could be possible that the father's wife is not the mother of the children.

Presumably you are referring to the way in which a tree report is displayed?

Presumably because that's they way the program was designed. With a single marriage it seems to vary as to whether the line comes from the mother or the father. I think it is whatever gives the best fit on the page.

If you look at someone who has more than one marriage plus corresponding sets half children it does make better sense with the children's line coming from the appropriate blood parent

I use Family Tree Maker 2005. Why doesn't the vertical decsendant line come from the double horizontal line between husband & wife.

Is there any way I can get the program to do this?
