It always used to be that the wife stayed in the property if there were dependent children but once those children were of legal age, i.e. 18 or older if still in education, there would be further negotiations where the house had to be sold and the profits if any divided up. At that stage one person could buy the other out if they could arrange or provide the finance. I have a couple of friends who had to do that, even tho the husbands had left them to move in with another woman.

I would think it must be very annoying and hurtful for a man to have to leave the marital home even if not the 'guilty party' and then see another man move in to take advantage of the house etc.

It happened like that with my brother, in a way. He moved in with a divorcee and her child, but the house was one the ex had bought his wife and child to live in, it wasn't the original marital home. After a while when the woman was pregnant by my bro, they sold that house and bought another with my brother's name on the mortgage but they used that first house to provide the deposit so my bro did ok out of it. The woman was still taking the maintenance etc till the ex husband called to pick up his daughter one day and notice her mother was pregnant (by my brother) He stopped the maintenance then and only paid for the daughter, not the Mum as well but they had been doing well for money till then and that pushed them into moving.
My bro then used the collateral from the new house to start a business, so altho he has worked hard and done well, he wouldn't have done without that start from his now wife's ex.

Justgenealogy, I agree with you :)) I have a thread further down the page for Mac.

Darklord, I have to agree with you, from experience of friends who have been through it the bias was heavily in favour of the wife, property and maintenance wise.

Hi

Being divorced and the one who was cheated on, I think the law is biased

Well, I think it is disgusting, but I dont want to talk about this subject, I want to know why a well liked member who is a lot older and wiser than many of us is not writing his memories for us all to read.
Sorry I think his name is Mac.

I for one would love to read his journey's through life on this site.

Uupps, sorry for interruping and changing the subject Lol.

and thought it very sad.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1259170/Husband-torched-home-stop-estranged-wife-getting-died-blaze.html

"'We were living separate lives and by the end we weren't talking at all, except when we had to.
'The house was both our pride and joy. He made it clear that he wasn't going to move out of the house but I expected him to do so. I was looking for accommodation for him on the internet.'

Do you think that the law regarding property, and the division of assets is biased in favour of the wife ? Would you, if you were the one who had 'strayed' move out...or would you say 'it's mine' regardless?

Should an ex wife, get any of her husband's pension? In doing so, ie taking money that we (women ) haven't earned , are we turning the clock back to being 'dependent', relying on a man? ;) ..
