Does anyone know much about this regiment. I was looking into the Holsgrove family and James Holsgrove (c.1852) is stated as being a Lance Sergeant in the 99th Regiment of Foot on his marriage certificate. I tried Googling this and they seem to have fought in the first Boer War in the Anglo-Zulu battle. All I know for certain is that he married in Clonmel Barracks (Tipperary, Ireland), had one child there, and the following two children were born in Bermuda and subsequent children were all born in Glasgow. All this fits in with him fighting in 1878-1880. |
