While sight is the strongest sense for short term memory, the sense of smell is the strongest and most vivid for long-term memories. ...

what scent reminds you of a special place or time in the past?

as mentioned on another thread, the smell of wax crayons takes me straight back to school.

Lilac in the rain takes me to Betws y Coed in Wales.

Fried onions takes me back to the funfair when I was 5

Parma violets to my nans home when I was a baby.

Cow manure, to the field of cows where my older brother parked me in my pushchair LOL

Freshly milled wholemeal flour reminds me of helping my grandmother to dish out 'meal' for her chickens.
I'm right back there in the little shed in Wales, holding open the sack.

The sweet smell of Jonquil (sp.? ) narcissus takes me straight back to the open stalls in Famagusta market in Cyprus.... Every spring I try to find some for a quick trip down Memory Lane.
