Easter Ghost Story - Part 4

Destiny decided to take a look at the old church. She made her way silently up the overgrown path, her way lit by the shaded beam of her tactical mini maglite. A strange honking noise caught her attention, and looking up, she saw a flight of wild geese, the moon reflected from their wings. Avoiding the wild rose bushes laden with dew, she reached the door. It opened at her push and she slipped inside. The torch shone round the interior and revealed an empty dusty graffiti covered hall, stripped of its pews and the stained glass windows boarded up. Walking down what was once the aisle, she saw a door at the far end. It had a new padlock on it, but it soon yielded to the clever application of a nail file. Stepping inside, she saw several parcels wrapped in brown paper and a shiny kettle on an old table, next to several pairs of warm winter gloves. She immediately had the thought that someone used this place to keep some of their favourite things.

Her eye was drawn to a corner where the glint of something shiny reflected her torch beam. Closer inspection revealed a large bale of cling film. Next to it was a set of scales. Looking round further, she found a few pieces of tortiglioni pasta. Suddenly, she heard muffled voices and footsteps. Dodging swiftly behind an old cupboard, she held her breath and waited. The voices became clearer and she heard people entering. A light was switched on and there were sounds of a commotion and several muttered curses. A few minutes later, the light went off and the footsteps receded. Waiting for a short while, she tentatively stepped out and switched her torch on again. Shining it around, she was startled to see a figure in the corner, with an old sack over its head and tightly bound in the clingfilm from the large bale she had seen earlier. She moved swiftly and with a deft movement released the hood to reveal the dazed figure of Norris.

Brad and Elsie sat in their Ford Ka 4x4 in the Working Men’s Club car park. Elsie had on a pair of headphones and was listening intently, whilst Brad had a small laptop on his knee, looking at a glowing dot superimposed on a map of the area in which they were located. Suddenly, the dot began to move and Elsie started the engine, whilst Brad reached under the seat and took out a Browning Hi-Power 9mm pistol, cocked it and slipped it inside his studded leather jacket. They moved off into the brightly lit street.
