I have discovered someone on Genes reunited that has information that I'm desperate to get hold of. Yet he won't reply to my e-mails or even acknowledge that he has received them. It is very frustrating because he could fill in huge gaps in my tree. I have contacted hin 13 times to no avail. Why do people go on here if they don't want to gain knowlege of their ancestors? I have begged and pleaded with him but no reply. He even tried to hide his surname but I managed to find it. At least 2 of my relatives moved there and he has them on his tree but won't allow me to view it. What can I do? help!!!

Have you checked that he has actually opened the messages?

If the guy doesn't want to answer, he doesn't have to. There is no legal obligation to do so..... no contract, or whatever.

I couldn't respond for a while because I was having a health blip... maybe he is, too, or someone close to him is...

Maybe he is reluctant to do so because he has been stung by so-called name collectors once too often.

The importance of your receiving the information he has, or appears to have, is not a life or death scenario, and as has been suggested there are other ways of getting this info.

Why not put up what you know about the people you are trying to trace, on one of the other threads.... or even on General
Publically naming him is not, in my opinion, going to help your case.

If I were Reg and saw this thread, I would report you for naming me on a public, worldwide forum, with details such as this... all in other public domains, I know, but still an intrusion of privacy on a forum such as this.

I also think it might be against terms and conditions to *name and shame* another member in this way.

Well spotted Island.

Genes, it would have been courteous to acknowledge the replies.

These type of threads are starting to get really boring. Do not mean to offend but we are seeing so many of them lately. No wonder GR are sending out emails with so many complaining.

So, if they do not want to contact, they probably have a very good reason.

Solution, do your own research, You can also ask for help on one of the boards.

I agree Gail-there are two other threads on here (general) on this subject

"Why Do People"

"What can I do when another person refuses contact"

The answer-nothing !!

Well, at least he/she removed the name of the person they were naming and shaming on this thread... I reported it, by the way.

I'd be furious if my personal details were spread all over a chat room site.

And I am not just bored with this sort opf thread, I am getting really cross.... how dare people demand information, even a criminal has the right to remain silent for goodness sake..... every shred of help I have had via hotmatches etc I have considered a gift, not a right just because I have paid my subscriptions.

That would be very arrogant of me, I think.

Hello David, every day is lovely, thank you.... trivialities such as this might be irritating, but not so much that I can't enjoy my day... I have a real life out here, you know! lol
