Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 26 Mar 2010 23:04

My OH cousin in USA has just lost her fight with kidney cancer. She was in her early sixties and leaves behind two girls and two grandchildren plus sibling brothers. Her funeral is Saturday in Pulaski Tennessee where she will be laid to rest with her Mum & Dad and two brothers in the family grave.
Her Mum was the younger sister of my MIL who went to the USA in the early 1920,s
We met her & her Mum in the 1960.s when they came over to visit and it was the first time my MIL had seen her sister in 40plus years.
So Mary-Toby nee Spears Bless you and may God grant you peace, hope you are now with your MUM & DAD and your grandparents and Auntie and you are all having a right chin wag!!
Shirley & Michael

Shirley, I am so sorry to read this, it's always so sad to know a loved one has had to suffer to the end, but I hope Mary-Toby rests in peace now, free from suffering, pain and all that goes with the dreadful illness, cancer.
I hope happier memories are helping to comfort her family and friends in Tennessee.

You are like me, you picture people being greeted by loved ones gone ahead and a welcome party being in progress, I always imagine my mother there with her famous sausage rolls or a cake and a cuppa, she never let anyone leave our house without they had been fed!

I am glad you had a chance to meet with Mary-Toby and her Mum and that they had the opportunity to come back to the UK to visit, albeit a long time ago.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 27 Mar 2010 15:36

Thank you Liz
Our thoughts have been with her siblings and children today as she is laid to rest ,She died at her daughters home in Texas but was being brought home to her family in Pulaski for her final resting place,
Thank goodness over all the years contact was never lost with her Mum and now with her siblings. We did meet her brother Dan & his wife in the 1980,s when they made a tour home to England and then to Southern Ireland to the paternal family home. Grandad was a Carey from Killarney.I remember meeting them and they were so pleased to meet MIL and took with them some precious family pictures of the Irish side including a VERY formidable picture of the grandma.#
I have the Irish 1911 census with MIL aged 6 living with her grandparents, apparently MIL was sent to Ireland cos her parents couldn't find lodgings/rooms that would take children !!
Mum often told us of her time in Ireland going to school without shoes AND going out at night to the field to toilet!! cos the cottage didnt have any sanitary facilities!

Dear Shirley and Micheal,
I am so sorry to hear your sad news.
Bless her, and the image you gave to me of the family all getting together was wonderful.
I do hope there is a lot of truth in it as that would give a lot of people including me, a lot of comfort.
It is a dreadful and wicked disease and the sped that it sometimes moves at is shocking, I'm thinking of my poor mum (d.1983).
God Bless,

Thank you Deanna
truly these cancers are so very wicked in how they attack. we lost our dear dad in 1975 from prostrate cancer and the way this silent crap!! encroached on our dear dad was devastating,
My MIL too developed bowel cancer as did her dad .
So seems my mils sisters daughter too has succumbed to cancer too ,makes you wonder if there is some genetic predisposition in families to cancer

yes Shirley, they are beginning to tell us that there might be a connection.
Well god help us all.
I have had the bowel cancer and seem to be fine up until now.... 2001... so I've been lucky...... so far.
