The complication begins when you add family members .You may add to the wrong extension of the family and your tree goes haywire.

I have a similar problem... two sisters marrying two fellas who were first cousins to each other..... and then one ancestor marrying his dead wife's sister....

I just put a note and the links in the notes bit of my tree....

How do I link the families of the second couple when using the site.
