i have windows vista and most of the time IE works fine. there are just certain times every evening when for a while its very slow. usually around8pm until about 10pm. somebody said this is when america is waking up and all the yanks logon thus causing the system to slow down. is this true, has anyone else heard of this?

I read somewhere not to update to IE8, that it was a problem. I am still on IE7 and it works fine for me. Any thing which asks me to install updates I click on "later" or "go away" or just plain "no", including the large message about updating browers.

There is one time when it does slow and that is when my McAffee virus scanner decides it will update itself. I usually tell it when to scan but occasionally it starts by itself. I can see this is happening in the bottom righthand corner of my screen. A little icon starts revolving. I usually stop it and restart the scan when I am ready.

Check if you have a virus scanner which is activated at a certain time each day, or week, etc.

I did use Firefox for a while but it messed up my fonts so badly I changed back to IE7 and have had no further problems.
