who remembers the wars that could have brought the country apart

The pit wars when the miners fought each other eventually, because they needed the pay off to pay the debts strike had caused. But still many held out for the right to work

I do, Uzzi

These were very difficult times - I know, I lived through them

Don't get me started on this. A Thatcher pissing contest.

and here we are, again with the BA strike. Willie Walsh trying to prove he's in charge of BRITISH airways.

You'd be forgiven for thinking we live in a Tory state.

Sue have you watched the film 'Brassed Off'

A lesson to many if they could only listen.

Many may see it as lighthearted but Grimethorpe really did have a brass band and a good one.

Yes, Uzzi, I've watched it. And shed a few tears.

I'm afraid no-one will listen, unless they've lived through watching your proud dad, who's been used to grafting and being the breadwinner, being cast onto the scrap heap, and finding himself useless and unable to do what he did best -provide for himself and his family

Just as well we have this government who'll stand up for his memory ....... not.

Not to worry - the worst is yet to come

Don't talk to me about bl !!dy Scargill, nout but a parasite.

He paid all union officials and his office staff, six months wages in advance before bringing the men who earn his money, out on strike.

My husband along with all the other men, was paid £2 a day for picketing in our own county, and £3 outside.

OH didn't vote for the strike,he thought the outcome would be a disaster, and he was proved right. He only came out because his kids would have been ostracised at school if he didn't.

And yes, there was more than one union official started the strike with nout and came out at the other end with a new house.

The one highlight of hubbys picketing days was when he threw three bobbies into the river Don in Sheffield.

I could go on for ever about this, eg it took us 15 yrs to recover financially from that fiasco.

And they STILL shut all the pits!!!
