No you don't need to up grade, you only need to wait for them to open it for you

Hi,I'm a Standard member..and yes, if permission is granted, you can view a tree.

Can I view other peoples trees with their permission if I am a Standard Member. Or do I have to upgrade to a Gold Member to view other trees.
