Just baked my own, to impress my Spanish husband. Proudly served them up. He took a mouthful <& said they need more sugar & they´d be better cold.
Why do I bother?

Thank goodness you read it as oven and not open. I had this giddy picture of you standing outside in the snow with a rejected hot cross bun, poked with currants, waiting for it to warm through.

The oven is the thing somewhere near the kitchen sink. And the kitchen sink is why women have small feet. So they can stand closer to it!!

Hi Michelle. Mine came from a smallish bakery which specialises in making lamingtons and other goodies. They won the 2010 National Hot Cross Bun competition. The buns are a little more expensive than the generic ones but really worth it.

We had Hot Cross Buns yesterday at work from one of the local bakeries - much better that than the supermarket bought ones - and they were just out of the oven - yum!

Ray. Be inventive. Hopefully the missus has some currants or sultanas in the pantry. Cut open an apple and cinnamon one and poke the mixed fruit into the bun then warm it in the oven for a few minutes.

Oh heavens what an idio Edit, edit. Warm in the OVEN, not open. It's not warm enough for you lot to be cooking eggs on the footpath yet is it.

I have just eaten two, warmed in the oven and spread with butter. However, true confession time, because I have this "thing" about not eating them before Good Friday, I actually sleepwalked last night about 10 past midnight and pinched a cold one from the fridge. So my answer is, "anyway but not before Good Friday".

And yes I will eat them tomorrow and the next day until the required quantity have been consumed, and then not again until this time next year.

Making my own tomorrow. I hope they turn out OK. They will surely be better than the Asd* ones we tried last month, they tasted like half cooked dough.

Mum used to put them in the oven to warm for breakfast on Good Friday.... Eaten spread with butter.
I like them to have a taste of spice, - rare in shop-bought ones these days, and usually 'zap' my one in the microwave for about 10 seconds. Generally we use non-dairy spread, but somehow Hot Cross Buns just cry out for proper butter, so that's what I'll have on mine.

No Gwyn orrible things,,,,they look like they are full of mouse droppings,,,,,,,bread and currants just dont mix somehow,,:}}}

we always had them toasted on Easter Sunday And we toasted em on a toasting fork in front of an open fire .so much tastier.
These days we buy them from mid Feb and eat em from then on sometimes open toasted and sometimes cold but split open and "butter" in them . i say Butter but we have to stick to low cholesterol thingies

Hot of course....cold cross buns are so wrong lol.

Love em, and I've beeneating Warburtons hot cross bun loaf...just right for the toaster and yummy.
