Dear All

Hello

On this day, Jesus Christ was arrested and was tried, in a mock trial. He was handed over to the Roman soldiers to be beaten and flogged with whips. A crown of long, sharp thorns was thrust upon his head.

He carried his own cross outside the city to Skull Hill.
Jesus was nailed to the cross. Two other criminals were crucified with him, their crosses were on either side of him. A sign above Jesus read "The King of the Jews."

According to the bible:

Jesus was nailed to the cross at was nailed to the cross. at
9:00 am

Darkness covered the land at noon.

The Lord died at 3-00pm and darkness left.

The contents of servces on this day vary:

Many Churches hold services lasting three hours. They may celebrate the Stations of the Cross, or take part in Passion plays and dramatic readings.

There may be a communion service in the evening or a time of prayer during the day, especially around 3 o'clock as that is about the time of day when Jesus died.

If you are going to a service, travel safely.

Take care
Very sincere wishes
xx

In Folkestone there is a combined churches walk to the hill above the town.
3 crosses are erected and a simple service held.

There used to be a single cross high on the hill above the nearby town of Hythe. Parishioners walked up the steep hill, taking it in turns to carry the cross.
Many townspeople used to look out for the cross, -even non church goers.

Do other towns do this?

Dear All

Hello

Hope you are well and doing okay.

I am very pleased you like the post....thank you all for contributing.

Dear Gwyn and Angel Song.................. there was a combined open air service on Palm Sunday and each church sent their cross, so people could see a dignified procession.

Our service was held at 3-00pm and this included the veneration of the cross. It was a simple but very moving service.

However, this fella's mobile phone went off twice in the church.
The looks he got!

On the way home, there was a certain bookmakers open for business.
In my humble opinion, I feel this is wrong.

On BBC1 on Easter Sunday, there is more coverage but nothing at all on ITV.

There always used to be a sunday service on ITV throughout the year and the excellent "Highway" TV series with Sir Harry Secombe.

Happy Easter and Spring time.

Take care
Very best wishes
xx

I too prefer Easter to Christmas Angelsong!

The coverage on tv is abysmal - maybe we don't complain enough to the tv authorities!! I always feel for those who can't get to church either because they are ill/old or have to work but who would like to feel part of the celebration.
