Why did you choose the date you did for your wedding / engagement.

Hiya Uzzi,

Engagement..... it was pay day and that was when the ring was paid for and we could collect it from the Jewellers

Wedding..... it was Easter Saturday, and hubby had a week's leave from his training... he had just joined the Army.

Easy !!

My friend had so much hassle with hers, with various relatives whinging they couldn't make this date or that date, even though she was travelling from Cyprus to UK so that the wedding could take place in her home town. So she did two things

1.... she stuck a pin in a list of Saturdays and the first one she hit was *the date*

2. She changed the venue to the Garrison Church in Cyprus.... where both she and her hubby -to- be were stationed at the time, lol They paid for their parents to come over and I think clubbed in for other rellies. A lot of the families were put up by married friends of the couple, as well.

Loads made the wedding, and had a wonderful time... it was a beautiful day.

Daff that is so nice about yours. I do love the pin idea of your friend mind.

Engagement was the day he proposed and the wedding was the first significant Saturday in the coming year.

Kitty a good memory for our Mum

Uzzi, I was 16 and he was just 18 when we got engaged, and we had only been seeing each other as an item for a couple of months... started going out on 2nd Sept, engagement was 28th November. He couldn't afford a ring straight off... we chose it, and the jeweller put it away for us... we went in every week and he paid a bit towards it, and the jeweller would let him put it on my finger and waggle it around, lol

It took me weeks to bring myself to tell my mum and dad.... but they were pretty good about it, lol and took us out for a meal to celebrate.

They said we wouldn't last, as well.... that was in 1970! ;¬)) Well, the engagement was.

We were supposed to get married on 18th August, church all booked, then my mum had a heart attack and seemed to be recovering but something told me to bring the wedding forward to March everyone thought I had gone mad but after our wedding mum got ill again and died in the July a month after her 50th birthday.

My boyfriend and I were in the Naafi, being teased because he followed me to break, when he was apatient and I was the nurse. We were asked when the wedding would be, in a joke, and quick as a flash(this was in August) I said, November the 5th so everyone can celebrate. We stuck to that, though he hadnt then asked me! Met and married in three months 54 years ago last November.

We got engaged on Bonfire night...I have no idea why...that's when he asked me ...cr*p proposal really not worth remembering lol.

We chose the date we did for our wedding as we got married in Vegas...didn't want to go when it was too hot...so went in Feb..and as we landed on the Sunday...we chose the Weds that week to get married so we had time to get things organised.

Turns out it was the day after his Mum and Dads wedding anniversary but I didn't know that at the time xx

Aaaaw you are all so romantic. We didn't get engaged, got married on a Tuesday - I wore black - I wasn't fussed about marrying to be honest - had two of our children by then. My 'engagement' ring was bought early on so I knew he was serious...lol Hit 30 years last year.

It was OH that chose the date Uzzi, at a time when you got a tax break April and October......

O.H knew he was due a posting to Cyprus, in January so it was either get married or have a really long engagement.
My sister had already arranged to marry in the previous August, so we couldn't jump in front of her long arranged wedding, but didn't want winter weather to stop friends and family being able to travel, so plumped for October.
Poor Mum and Dad...2 weddings within less than 2 months.

I think we'd arranged this before he actually bought an engagement ring, which he gave me in the July, on our '1st anniversary of meeting' day.

Yep... Cyprus, where we met.... Gwyn, lolol

Small world, isn't it? We *met up* again on a thread of Hayley's a couple of years ago.

Gwyn, we were just babies, lol!
