This was part of the Sunday Trading Act 1994. The Act only applies to businesses in England and Wales. As a result, large shops - retail businesses with a floor area of more than 280 square metres, including Garden Centres - can only open on a Sunday for a continuous period of six hours between 10.00 and 18.00. |

Scotland don't have the same laws about Easter Sunday as we do. I remember that from when we were up there at Easter a few years ago. |

Easter Sunday is probably the most important day in the Christian calendar and therefore there are special opening rules as for Christmas Day, any shop over a certain number of square feet is not able to open on Easter Sunday. You will find small corner shops may be open but not a large shop where you might find a duvet. |

I think it is only smaller shops tha are allowed to open - from memory (often faulty) it is 250 sq. metres. Near us it is only the Co-ops that are only just bigger than corner shops that are stores that are open. |
