Morag , don't go Gold...

It isn't worth it and won't help at all with your Irish side, the best help on that usually comes from other members here for free, plus other free sites which have been mentioned on tips threads.

I use Ancestry for records, free sites for what isn't on there, and here on the basic sub for the wealth of expertise and helpful advice...and good chat :))

DON'T become a gold member, put your money towards a subscription to Ancestry.co.uk or to Findmypast.

You only get taken to other sites for the info like censuses, bmd's.

If you look on the TIPS BOARD and in the search box put IRISH SITES,quite a lot of sites come depending wether you are looking for Northern Ireland or Southern Ireland.

There is a thread on TIPS that has a lot of sites for genealogy.

Hope this helps
ps I have nudge a few sites to the top for you, hope they help.

Hi. I've seen several comments from long standing members on here who do not think that Gold membership is worth the extra money. Genes do not hold any records but simply send you to other sites. Hope this is helpful. Cx.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHETHER I WOULD GAIN MORE INFO' BY BECOMING A GOLD MEMBER VS BEING A STANDARD MEMBER. ALL OF MY SEARCHES ARE IN NORTHERN IRELAND AND SCOTLAND. I HAVE HAD SOME SUCESS WITH MY SCOTTISH FAMILY THROUGH CONTACTS IN GR. WHICH I HAVE REALLY APPRECIATED. VERY, VERY LITTLE WITH MY IRISH SEARCH, BUT IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TRACING ANCESTORS IN IRELAND AS SO MANY RECORDS WERE LOST IN A FIRE. I HAVE HAD PEOPLE KINDLY OFFER TO HELP, BUT EVEN THEY HIT A BRICK WALL. I AM CONSIDERING BECOMING A FULL MEMBER AND WOULD LIKE TO HEAR WHETHER IT WOULD BE WORTH IT FOR ME.
