Kay????

Kay???? Report 11 Apr 2010 10:59

What would happen to the horses,,,,,,,,,

whats being missed is ,,,,,,,,,,,these horses are purely interbred for racing,,,with sperm banks ,,,,they arent taken from a lazy green pasture to race,,,,,,their days are running, jumping, and what ever,,they never see green grass ,never roll in grass, never interact with other horses, a chance at breeding time maybe.

if horse racing was stopped so would the breeding programme of them and exchanging of £££££,just to make a person rich,,,,polo is another expliot of these animals,,,,,

Uzzi..I watched it lastnight yes Max is quite nice looking.

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 10 Apr 2010 20:15

and so the race is over for another year.
Those who suggest they abolish on grounds of cruelty, what do you suggest they do with the horses for the rest of the year, if they did abolish the racing?

surely they are greater than childrens games and pin the tail on the donkey at birthdays ?

Marion I am sure the horse has had his supper and has been tucked in for the night.

Wasn't going to add to this.

It does seem cruel in a way but, the horses keep running so they must get something out of it. I do feel for them when they fall or get hurt.

The jockeys....well thats another matter, they take risks and if they get hurt thats their own fault. I feel more sorry for the horses.

The white horse...I thought ,good on you, you didnt want to do it for what ever reason.
I hope he's not put to bed without supper for not doing what he/she was told.....or worse :((

For those interested in horses there is a really good program on Animal Planet called Houston SPCA, it is on at 9pm I think. Now they go to real cases of horse cruelty, I mean starved and neglected horses, proper cruelty, living in their own muck, not the type when they are fed the best food, sleep in a cosy stable, feet sorted regular, run about a lush field and run the occassional race type of cruelty!
It is amazing the state some people let these animals get into. When rescued they tend to put the ones with a very damaged leg to sleep, you know this animal protection group, and they do a great job of getting other horses healthy again.
That program shows real cruelty, and they show other animal, dogs etc.

UzziAndHerDogs Report 10 Apr 2010 19:35

Roxanne I haven't owned horses of that caliber but sometimes it is kinder to put down ,,,if only they would do that for people. But I have owned racing dogs and kept after a broken leg never to race again. I have also put down a dog when needed.

UzziAndHerDogs Report 10 Apr 2010 19:31

Well said Miss Minton

please others it was humans who domesticated these animals for their own use plough, riding horses. Do you really believe that all of those get better treatment ..don't forget the show horses either !

edit to say The national is just a minor way we the human probably abuses a horse. after all we tame them

Meryl Report 10 Apr 2010 19:25

Uzzi I agree with alot of what you say. They would be destroyed and they do enjoy the race. Today at the start of the National a white horse would not let the jockey on and held the race up a little. When he did finally get on and the race started that horse refused and it did not run. You cannot force a horse to race. Many whose jockey came off and the horse fell over, quickly jumped up and ran along with the other horses having a great time. The jockey is a bit over the top with the whip sometimes I agree. Races like this have the RSPCA there from when the horses arrive and they do inspect them. People say it is cruel if the horse falls, that is life, all people and animals face danger everyday and accidents happen everyday. Horses just can't run free and do need care from people for their feet etc.
Roxanne when a horse breaks a leg it is cruel to keep it alive and a leathel injection is the kindest thing for it. The same if it had had an accident on a farm or in a field.
Horse racing creates jobs and teaches those close to them how to care properly for these beautiful animals.
Horses for courses.
I don't think all animal rights people are fluffy, I just think they sometimes don't see the big picture and just see a cute animal.

Roxanne Report 10 Apr 2010 19:02

Well what happens when a horse is injured now? does it get treatment or a bullit through the head? that's easy isn't it :-)) No money, once the animal is injured is there! so off to the abattoir!

I am not a fluffy person,Miss Minton! I'm just anti abuse and anti exploitation! why do people always say that Animal rights people are Fluffy! we are anything but believe me well not the ones that get things done any way;-)) and before someone says anything No I am not the sort that believes in terrorist actions to get things done, those sort of activists are just stupid and as bad as the animal abusers.

Yes the national may be cruel but asking horses to race isn't. Without the national many horses would be destroyed anyway. Every one wants to breed a winner.
What is cruel with crops etc is when you see the strike marks on them, most jockeys do know when their horse has given all and do not strike them.
I sit on the fence with this one as I am anti gambling and anti animal hurting but the national is being changed so it isn't so dangerous.

I would love all horses to run free but then we would be over run and a wild horse is nasty. So ....

Meryl

Meryl Report 10 Apr 2010 18:40

So what happens to all these race horses when racing is abolished? Abattoir? Maybe they will be joined by the 90% of humans who need culling? Then nature and animals can take over the planet and it will be all fluffy and Disney like.

Roxanne

Roxanne Report 10 Apr 2010 17:59

What utter rubbish! it is cruel and its out dated and just pure greed there is no love involved with these animals only shallow people out to make money from animals once again!

one day it will come to an end once enough people come to understand that the human race do not own the rest of the animal kingdom, some humans make me sick! and the world would be far better with off without 90% of them!

Meryl

Meryl Report 10 Apr 2010 15:05

I don't think it is cruel, you can't force the horses to run and jump, what is that saying..... you can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
They also get better treatment than we get on the NHS, they are treated like VIPs. Best of every thing.
If you stopped horse racing what would happen to these horses, they would not earn their keep so would most likely be destroyed.
There are dangers in all sports, should they all be banned? Horses enjoy running.

Roxanne

Roxanne Report 10 Apr 2010 14:26

Yes,I agree with Kay and KatieW.
Anyone who thinks its not cruel must either be simple or in the horse racing game;-)))
