I saw the end of one of the (late ) races at Aintree today, in which two horses died. Don't know about any of the other races.

I fell a little hypercritical as I usually watch the National and often pick a couple of horses (Since my mum died I tend to pick one for her, as she used to bet on the National).

However, to salve my consience, I don't put a bet on at all.
I would feel, if one of the horses I bet on died, I would be partially responsible. As I don't put money into the pot, I make no difference to the race being run or not.
We all know that the horses only run because there is money to be made.

Yes and when they get a bit tried or want to catch their breath or may have stitch, what happens they are given a stinging whip on the rear, even when they are frothing at the mouths........yep who be a race horse eh,,,,,,get your sides kicked, whipped, have a lump of iron in your mouth to pull your head back, if you give a little flutter,,,,made to jump for than you can ,maybe fall and have a gun put to your head,,,,,,,,,no more lazy days in pastures green,

the the £ certainly puts a great price on its life....

I love the beginning of the National as the horses are being lined up ready, you can see the horses are raring to go, they love it.

Very few are destroyed as the course is made safer and safer each year.

I cannot bear to watch it!! so many horses get injured or have to be put down

I think the horses enjoy the race, why do they continue to run and jump fences when the jockey falls off? No horse racing means no horses, they would all be destroyed and used as dog food.

Stray Babes, some of my rellies were horse trainers at Newmarket, before going on to train horses for the Kaiser. One son of the family went on to have 9 German Derby Day winners, and his horse, Oleander was pipped at the post in the French Pre Du Lac DeTriumph. Another son, trained many Scandinavian Derby Day winners. On the other hand, me dad regularly takes the local bookie for a ride.
There, that is as much as I know about horses, except they are lovely creatures, and there are a couple in the field that comes up to the back of my house.
I know nowt about backing them, and have never been in a bookies in me life. In other words, I think the Grand National is more about pot luck, when it comes to betting
Enjoy tomorrow.
