Google is our friend.

Search for

MSN closing down

and you'll get the answer in spades -- 992 of them at answers.yahoo.com alone, going back to 2007.

Hoax.

Btw, you need to tell your friends to stop sending you garbage emails.

No one should EVER forward this kind of nonsense to anyone else without doing a 10-second google themselves.

The quickest way to find whether something is a hoax -- and really, you can usually just tell -- is to google something in it along with "snopes" -- like

MSN closing down snopes

And here we are:

http://www.snopes.com/computer/internet/overload.asp

Apparently this hoax has been circulated about not just MSN, but also Hotmail, Yahoo, MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, Gmail ... and started in 1999.

Hi Janey,

Thanks for telling me I just wasn't sure if it was true or just a hoax!!

They're pretty funny, actually.

In 2006 it was turned upon MSN via these two e-mail messages:

Hey it is Andy the director of MSN, Tim Buiski, sorry for the interruption but MSN is closing the system down because too many inconsiderate people are taking up all the names, we only have 578 names left, if you would like to close your account, then do not send this message out, if you would like to keep your account, then send this message to everyone on your list.

This is no joke, we are really shutting down the servers.

Send it, thanks,
Tim Buiski

WHO EVER DOES NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE, YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE CLOSED AND WILL COST $10.00 A MONTH TO USE, SEND THIS T0 EVERYONE ON YOUR LIST

Snork. 578 names left. ;)
