I remember Kennetth McKellar too, it's sad he died so suddenly but maybe better for him not to have to suffer too long. Very sad for those who loved him and will miss him.
May he rest in peace now reunited with loved ones gone ahead.

I listened to him singing on Youtube and it brought back memories of watching him on tv.

Oh how sad. Poor man to die in such a way.
I remember him well and he did indeed have a lovely voice.
I remember him singing in the Eurovision
song contest when it WAS a Euopean song contest.
In those days the songs were meant to represent the country which entered them, but it was slowly becoming a pop song competition and he said he would never enter again.
I remember them all girls.... some really good singers.
That will age me wont it? ;-0)
RIP Kenneth, thanks for the memories.

Marion, that really was lovely. I have a CD, Spirit of the Glen, and there are some lovely tunes that would be suitable for my Dad when the time comes. I would also like him to have Rod Stuart singing ' I Am Sailing', with the pipes playing on it. This is for two reasons. Dad was in the Royal Navy during the war, and, he was stationed up the Kyles of Bute after the war, when we all went to live up there.
Yes there was a White Heather Club on the telly, but I can't remember if it was Kenneth McKeller or Andy Stuart. There was, of course, Moira Anderson
Dad and I always bemoan that 'they' have spoiled New Year's Eve on the telly, by taking away the tradition.
Nothing gets me weeping more than a pipe band, especially if they are marching. If I am out somewhere, and there is one, I always want to march at the back of them. When I was a child, Dad was the Drum Major for the Rothesay and Port Bannatyne bands, and on practice night, they marched up and down the esplanade, with loads of kids, including me, marching behind them. Erm, very odd childhood was mine, but harmless. Such memories.

Julie..He got taken into the Crematorium to Mull of Kintyre lol. He would have loved it and I think all of his freinds that were there enjoyed it too...It was in England lol.

There used to be a programme on The white Heather club, not sure if KM was in that or noe though.

Hi Julia
Thanks for confirming who I thought it was. I have fond memories of Kenneth, as I associate him with my Grandad who died 25 years ago. When I was little, I always used to watch Kenneth's shows with my Grandad as he liked him too. I loved his type of show, and its a shame that there is nothing like it these days. Kenneth brought lots of pleasure to us all.

My Dad liked him. We played KM singing 'My love is like a Red Red Rose' at his funeral two years ago....yesterday. He was also 82.

Is it Kenneth McKelllar who used to do the New Years Eve tv programme in the 60's? The programme used to have scottish dancers on and Kenneth wore his kilt - is that him you are talking about? How old was he when he died? Which newspaper is it reported in?

Yes Sharron, I remember him from my childhood. Apparently, he represented us at the Eurovision Song Contest, but I can't remember that.
A very fine tenor, along with David Whitfield.
