"Warwick University sociologists warn amateur historians of pitfalls which may exacerbate family conflicts and rifts. "

this sounded a bit familiar lol

"And a 70-year-old woman complained: ‘My husband is into family history research in a big way.
It is his constant topic of conversation and it is driving us up the wall." "

I posted a link to this Doonesbury strip a while back. It was in the Saturday funnies here, and when I showed it to No.1, he got it immediately. ;)

Click on it to enlarge for easier reading once you get there. The backstory is that Mike purchased a title a few years back ... so the strip starts out:

"Hey, did I ever tell you about the Viscount St. Austell-in-the-Moor-Biggleswade-Brixham who preceded me?"

From Rose's link:

"The main dangers come from uncovering unwelcome information, coming into contact with hostile family members - or becoming addicted to the research itself, and neglecting time with loved ones."

Ha. If loved ones were more entertaining ...
