M&S last year (haven't looked lately) had a range of junior bras that were not padded. (I know because the largest size fitted me and they were good under t shirts (no seams,) and they were not underwired, I can't wear underwired bras I find them uncomfortable. they were not see through. as I said not seen them lately

When I was 10, I had my first bra... it was needed, it wasn't because I was fashion conscious. In fact, I was devastated.

But.... first bras were only available then from M & S.... and they were padded. The were all in gingham, blue, pink or black... and they were padded for a reason. Not vanity, but because a child's vest just did not go over the bra properly... they were padded so as the little budding form wasn't visible... there were perverts around then... Lesley Ann Downey was just a week younger than me.

My little granddaughter is not 5 until the summer. But she is taller than most 5 and 6 year olds. I find that clothes suitable for her age, are just few and far between... girls clothes for 5 to 6 year olds suddenly become cropped, off the shoulder... much more suitable to a night out clubbing on an 18 year old, than on a 4 year old... or even a 5 or 6 year old.

BUT the manufacturers only produce what the customers buy. So there is joint responsibility, there.

Myself? I also put some of the blame onto fashion designers, onto the publishers of magazines aimed at youngsters, and onto those icons that get their money from youngsters and their parents, but show no social responsibility. Like pop stars, and football stars.... not the ones aiming at the older market, but those specifically aiming at children as well.

Oh.... and can someone please tell me where I can buy knickers for 4 and 5 year olds that are NOT hipsters, and which stay covering up when doing handstands and suchlike, and not well, you know... wedge!!

One of my pet hates is when mothers put their new babies in denims, particularly jeans. What is wrong with a few knitteds, or even babygrows.

BHS Tammy Girl do padded bikinis...but you can take the padding out through a small cut out set in the material.

But i was shocked to see undies & bikinis in the shops aimed at under 12's designed to make them look as if they have bigger boobs :o((

Been having a rather hard time buying swimwear as daughters long in the body, and size 12/13 primani fits where it touches.

Cant seem to buy any clothes for her as sizes seem to stop for kids at 12/13 in many shops. (which seem a small 12/13. then start as adult sizes. Undies are also a nightmare. they jump from pre teen to adult in one swoop.

I bought my daughter (11) some bra type tops from ASDA (all in one flimsy stretchy things looks like real bras. ) as she said she feels a bit embaressed getting changed for PE at school (yr6) & a real bra isnt really needed at present.
Fortunatly they serve the purpose for her age group where vests are deemed as silly & crop vests are not wanted. but I was appalled to see them in sizes 5/6 :o((

I was in a shop with my daughter, who was about 15 at the time. We were looking at the adult knickers - thongs were the 'rage' at the time, I was voicing my opinion to her on 'anal floss', when a young girl appeared with her mother, grabbed some thongs, looked at the size (8 or 10) and said 'These are my size' (ie age) - and they went off to pay for them!!

Not a word from her mum!!!!

Yes kay i agree but you try finding a shop that sell a good bra that does not show the n****** whilst wearing a white t shirt . its very hard

Kay????

Kay???? Report 15 Apr 2010 23:12

I would say its the responsibilty of the adult who buys.....

Being a mum of a girl who just need s a bra i was gobsmacked to find that i coulnt find a braa for her that wasnt padded , i was disgusted , but the ones that they do sell are just as flimsey ie as in if my daughter wore the flimsey braa it would still be see through as she has to ware a white blouse ..
bring in some thick thick cotton unpadded ones ...

and then sadly our social workers get criticised for being over or under zealous in classing children as being "at risk".
Whose responsibiltiy is it anyway?

What responsible parent in their right mind would even concider buying anything of an adult nature for a child,!!

I fear the day we ever get beauty pagents for children over here,,,,,,,!

Yes children do grow up too fast,
let children be children, and play and have fun, without worry about keeping up with fashion.
Its the stupid parents who are the ones that should go to parenting classes.
Like Rambling Rose, said dont get me started.
Its the same with the social networking sites, the lanquage that is on there,I never knew what they meant until I was at least 16 lol!!!!!!
A long time ago I hasten to add.
A sad sign of the times Im afraid.

Yes, I do and have thought that they have been encouraged to do so by advertisers.

My kids were dressed appropriately for their age, no matter what their peers wore.

Also I wouldn't have dreamt iof the girls reading a magazine which covered such topics as petting!!!!!

FGS let them enjoy childhood, being a teen then an adult is going to be difficult enough.

I love to watch children playing, being daft and having fun, not trying to emulate some empty headed so called celeb at the age of 9/10 and worrying that at 6 stone they are overweight and they will need a boob job asap.

Rant over

Yes and I am disgusted that not only are Primark selling those garments for children but there are parents that would even consider buying them in the first place !
