SCHOOLS... WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE

I think there is too much testing too early, it puts pressure on the school to 'perform' and pressure on the children. It stifles their natural inclination to learn.

I would like to see less pressure on teenagers to go to Uni, and, as has been said, more emphasis on practical non academic jobs (apprenticeship schemes).

I would also like to see less government encouragement of young girls having babies. Let the families look after the girls and their babies, don't automatically give them accommodation. Based on individual cases of course.

I'd like to see them stop SATS testing ks1 children...imho they spend more time teaching them to pass the tests and it doesn't leave enough time for them to know for sure that the info has been processed properly x

i think you have a point there rose, alot of kids dont understand algebra,or fractions etc.if there given an apprentiship they can learn from ground floor and work up.this used to be done when i was young .and made many a good worker, without having to have all the qualifications now.i think they were 3 and 5 year ones.

i.d like to see the police going to schools at say around 10.showing them what can happen when they go off the tracks.what a YOI is really like .and show them whats the difference between going to work and spending your hard earned cash on stuff you like ,as opposed to wasting away in a young offenders .

also at 12 kids need to be shown how life is for her 3 doors away,13 and preggy.watching her mates going out having fun when shes stuck at home wipeing a babys bum.
this is all real stuff.but they need to know.

oh and if it were possible...and it isn't lol , teachers who don't come straight from teacher training but have some experience of other work and become teachers as a 'vocation' not a 'job', who have a passion for their subjects that transmits even to those who aren't 'clever', who inspire.

and I don't think it would be bad to re-instate desks with the teacher at the front...and no 'milling around' , that's just a practical point, if the child can't see your face he is less likely to be listening to your voice :)

Actually the reverse lol, it is my belief that keeping kids in school longer is doing no one any favours...it is an 'artificial' environment where they learn only to deal with their peers. I would like to see more school pupils being given a role in the 'real world' at an earlier age, not slipping seamlessly from school to college to Uni...and out at the end with paper qualifications but no real knowledge of the world outside a classroom.

more apprenticeships and practical lessons for those not academically inclined, a bored teenager who doesn't want to do GCSE's or stay on is just wasting time all round. Fewer subjects to the main curriculum and a broader range of options basically. A drive to get more male teachers in at Primary school level to ensure those children without a 'male role model' get to see one,.....
