National Lottery - a good idea?

Dear All

Hello

Hope you are keeping well.

On 25 May 1994, the Camelot consortium won the contract to run Britain's first national lottery which started in November 1994.

Camelot pledged to give up to 30% of takings to the good causes fund split between charities, the arts, sport, National Heritage projects and a Millennium Fund.

However, the bid by Richard Branson was turned down as his bid would have seen all profits not used to run the lottery given to charities and the arts.

He said "for a few shareholders to cream off hundreds of millions of pounds from this is absolutely wrong."

After initial public enthusiasm, ticket sales declined as did Camelot's public image.

Do you think the introduciton of a national lottery was a good idea?

Should all the profits go to charity?

Take care
Very best wishes

I think £100 would be a good idea for three numbers, and I bet you would get more people playing.

The amount of the prize money is way down on what it used to be, when one person could win so much, now it is low and the Wednesday one even lower in total, so less money to go to worthy causes as well. I am annoyed that it seems lots is being creamed off to do things that the government should be doing, and lots more going to the Olympic fund too. I don't know if the Dream number that I think was introduced solely to help with the Olympic needs has done very well, I never play it and after a very short time, wasn't asked when purchasing my ticket, the novelty of asking soon wore off.
