Can you still get Bridge Rolls? Mum used to buy those if we had a party they were nice.

It’s 10 or 11 degrees here but it feels much colder. Like Mandy we’ve had sunshine and showers all day. I’ll check them but I’m hoping the pots won’t need watering tonight.

I’ve found it hard to get motivated to do anything today and have just pottered about. I shall have to get myself moving tomorrow as we have friends coming for coffee at 11 am and I’d like to wield a duster and have a wipe round the downstairs loo before they arrive.

I hope you have got your eye appointment sorted out AnnG. It’s a shock when these practitioners retire and you have to start over with a new one. We had the same problem a few years ago when our dentist retired. His was a one man practice but luckily a larger practice in the same town agreed to take on a few of his patients and we now go there.

Those custard cream biscuits sound interesting Mandy. I used to make a coffee cream biscuit which went down well but they are fiddly to make so I haven’t done them for ages.

This talk of biscuits makes me think it’s time for a cuppa. I think I fancy a nice Digestive or maybe a Ginger Nut.

Still 12 here but, although it looks quite pleasant outside, it is sunny, the wind is really strong which makes it feel cold and not so pleasant. I haven't done a lot, woked out the Tesco order for Saturday, my shops used to average around £55, now it is 75-80. Things keep on going up. I have also done a bit of admin, sorted out my dates with daughter and given the microwave a good clean, I had obviously had a bit of an explosion of baked beans and forgotten it. Oh and, as I said before, dead headed the roses I could reach, the top branches are very tall.
Trying to book my annual eye test and was shocked to find my optomodrist has retired. He has been checking my eyes for years and now I have three I don't know to choose between. I think my eyes are ok so hopefully I won't need new glassses.

Sounds interesting Mandy can we have a pic and let us know what they taste like please?

I made a big pot of soup yesterday and today I had two smallish bowls for lunch with a nice inch thick slice of wholemeal dry. So far so good. Hav'nt the foggyist what I am goijng to have tonight for dinner as I hav'nt anymore rice pud.

I have been forgetting to watch Gardeners World and am catching up at lunchtimes. I have just gone by Easter so still a lot tocatch up on.

No rain here but a dreadful strong wind from the west I think. Its blowing everything about and its cold. Blue sky and white clouds and its 11 degrees so you're warmer than me today Anng. Just ooked and its gone up to 12.

It is 12 degrees but very windy and the wind is making it feel colder than it should be. No rain at all, it seems to be all or nothing with rain depending where you live. I have been down the garden dead heading the climbing roses to try and reduce the weight as the wind is really blowing them around.

Just realised I read the post and did'nt post myself!!

Morning all,

Its 11 degrees and sunny at the mo but it has rained in the night or early morning as the cars are wet and the road and its not dried up. Pc is still telling me 4 rainy days starting Saturday.

Must do the bin today as it refuse day tomorrow and they come so early we have to get them out tonight.

Going to attempt to prick out some of the self sown Box seedlings today but first I need to give the girls some greens and clean their nest box out and then do a few other things before that.

Hope you all slept well I did and no indigestion as I had a tin of rice for dinner last night with a mug of half milk half hot water and a small bit of chocolate.

Morning Anng ,morning all,

We've had some rain ,looking on the camera it started about four this morning eve had a few showers since we got ip .
I wanted to get outside and prick out some little French Marigold plants that I have ready in a tub but we'll see how the weather goes if not it will be inside jobs.

Oh Mel what a shame you didn't get the number plate that would have been nice to have on your car,.

AnninGlos Report 13 May 2026 08:37

Good morning all. it was sunny earlier but has clouded over now. 11 degrees so not too cold, not sure what it was over night but it was not forecast to be a frost. I have looked ahead to the next two weeks and it looks as if it is getting warmer so next Sunday or Monday ear marked to plant out plants.

Hope you had a nice time with Fitz Ann yesterday.
No real plans for today although I might walk down with some books to return if it stays dry.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 12 May 2026 18:34

Sounds like you have a good worker there Vera make sure you keep his number safe for anything you need done in the future.

Mandy Jake's birthday is three days after my sons but I never remember it. I bet he will be so pleased with his gift if its the one he's been looking at.

I very nearly had mine once the girl down the road was getting rid of her mini and it was going for scrap. I asked if I could buy the number plate as it was MEL 32 she said yes but then she scraped the car and did'nt let me know.

Not done much today either just did a bit of painting and varnishing and then knocked the side out of the thing I painted. May be able to save it and give it to someone.

I ordered myself a garden chair you can relax back into and a padded seat thing to go on it. The seat pad came a few days ago and the chair was coming beteen 6th and 11th may with a four pound refund if it came after the 11th. I wonder if I will get a refund?? I'm pleased with the chair but its a bit low and a bit hard to get out of but I manage.

It's been nice and sunny but the wind really catches you , we did have a few spots of rain ,just enough to wet the ground but didn't make any puddles .
We had a nice catch up with Colins sister ,we got home just after twelve o'clock, I did get the washing dry on the line and I made a few sausage rolls this afternoon but that's all I've done today .

Vera Jakes birthday is the 22nd of May so not long ,I'm sure he's going to love the number plate as it's one he had been looking at .
You were very lucky not getting more burns but make sure you keep it covered especially if you do any gardening.
Sounds as if Dan the man is getting on well with all your jobs .

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 12 May 2026 14:43

Good to get all the jobs done Vera. It is the little jobs that are so frustrating isn't it?

I have done very little today, too cold to work outside, the wind is bitter so just pottered around the plants that are in the conservatory. Must check the forecast and see if I am likely to be able to plant out in pots the tray of bedding begonias They will mostly be up near the house so more protected from frosta. They are very healthy, quite large plugs.

I have been quite lazy today spending time reading a book I found I couldn't put down.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 12 May 2026 12:29

Morning ladies

I didn't see any frost this morning but it was a cold, clear night so I'm glad I put some fleece over a couple of tender plants. I was looking out of the window at 2.30 this morning and it was amazing; a real "Starry, Starry Night". It's a long while since I saw a night sky like that. I can only imagine what it looked like in a black spot without all the light pollution we get around here.

Dan the man is here to get started on the jobs we have lined up. When he was recommended to me I was told he was a hard worker but a bit on the messy side. My friend was right on both counts. He arrived dead on 9 am as promised, introduced himself with a firm handshake, talked through with OH what needed doing and got straight on. He wouldn't come in for a coffee mid morning but took it outside to drink while he was working. So far he has finished the guttering job OH was doing when he fell, put up a wall sculpture on a front wall outside, fixed a dodgy slider on the garage side door and started on cleaning all the paving round the house, of which there is a lot. He's using our big washer thingy which is quite powerful but even so I doubt if he will finish today. It's a long job and hard work. He's not the tidiest of workers but OH has said he doesn't mind clearing up after him.

Mandy, I did only have one small blister and the skin rubbed off that yesterday while I was washing my hands and the skin underneath was a bit red but it was dry and looked fine. I think I was very lucky. When is Jake's 21st? You'll have to tell us what he thought of his number plate, I bet he'll be delighted with it.

Sorry to hear you had a night of indigestion Mel. Did you have a meal with pastry which can be indigestible or did you eat quite late? It's supposed to be bad for you to go to bed too soon after a big meal. As we've got older I've started eating our evening meal earlier than we used to. I try to get it for about 6.30 now.

I can't believe it's lunchtime already. I seem to have faffed about and not done much at all this morning so I'm hoping to do some jobs this afternoon or it will be another wasted day. I can't really do anything in the garden while Dan is working out there but I suppose I could vac and dust around

Baby steps with the garden this year. I have planted up two hanging baskets and they are staying in the conservatory for now. If it gets hot I will pop them outside to cool off.

Morning girls,

its 12 degrees here and pc says t expect 6 rainy days ahead starting tomorrow so better make the most of today.

I was up at 5 something and went back to bed and had violent indigestion so lay fora while and had to get up and take a couple of rennies. Fell asleep again later on and woke at 10.27am. Still had indigestion.

I ordered myself a garden chair which should have come by yesterday and did'nt but it came at 9.17am this morning and was left on the doorstep.

Have a lovely lunch and chat with Fitz today Ann. It will be good to catch up on things.

Hope the weather stays nice for you to get your washing out after going to Colin's sisters for coffee Mandy.

Right shopping is due between 11am and 1pm so I better do my hair.

Morning Anng ,morning all,

Not sure if there was a frost this morning but yesterday the car roof was white .
Colin had his eye clinic appointment yesterday and then we did a few jobs when we got home , today we're off to see Colins sister and have a coffee with her so that will be the morning gone .
I have a basket of washing to hang out but we should get showers so I'm not risking hanging it out until we come home .

Ann I hope you have a nice lunch and chat with Fitz today .

Vera hope the burn on your hand is OK, did you get just the one blister in the end .

Better drink my tea and get hoovered through before we go out .

Good morning all. Bright sunny morning but only 4 degrees. I don't know if there was a frost earlier, I was awake from 5-6is then went back to sleep until 0745.

Hope the sun stays out so I can potter out in the garden.

I too have to admit I don’t recall what T gave me for my 22st.

You were busy today. Era even if not gardening.
Just listening to the news about the people off the virus hit cruise ship. I think we did actually learn something from Covid. They appear to be handling this very well keeping it contsined. Hopefully no more of those repatriated will develop the virus. And those returned to their homes will continue to self isolate. One of those just inthe centre where they are kept said.’we did it for Covid we can do it again’ referring I think to isolating

Like you AnnG my age meant I had to wait till this year to get the RSV jab. If I were you Mel I would check with the surgery whether you might already have had it, perhaps when you were in hospital. If they say you haven't then ask for it.

I didn't expect anything much for my 21st from my parents as I was getting married a month later and they were paying quite a lot of the wedding costs but they bought me a silver bangle. It's awful to admit it but I can't remember what OH bought me. When our kids were getting near 18 we gave them the choice of a proper celebration then or when they were 21 but not both. They both opted to celebrate at 18.

The sun has just come out at last. It's been a cold dreary day again and with a bitter wind that's made it feel really cold. At the moment it's supposed to be 11 degrees but, like you AnnG, I had to put a jacket on when I went outside for just a couple of minutes and it's saying it could go down to -2 tonight. There have been a couple of light showers but not enough to even dampen the ground. I haven't been tempted to do any gardening though I have packed away tulip bulbs. The leaves died back quite quickly so I lifted the bulbs and let them dry out a bit. Now they are packed away and will get planted in pots again around November time. The leaves of the potted daffodils are taking ages to die back and I want to use the pots for other things.

I've also done loads of washing again and changed our bedding. Now I've got to think of something to do with cold pork for tonight's meal. It was just going to be a salad but OH seems to have eaten most of the salad stuff. He generally gets lunch for us and usually has some salad. Lately he has been having quite a plateful. I don't mind that as it's nice and healthy but I do wish he'd remember to tell me when we're running low or he's finished something up.

I hope you all have a pain free night and a good sleep tonight and hope you enjoy your lunch with Fitz tomorrow Annx.
