Afternoon All,

It's crept up to 27 degrees now so I'm keeping out of the garden too as the bit of breeze has dropped and it's far too hot. OH has gone to a match about an hour away and taken water, cobs and a banana. This morning I went to the shop while OH did a short walk to pay the papers, too hot to go far. Then we went to Sainsbury's garage to fill my car up and we both did a short stint in the garden when we got back, OH cutting back some brambles coming over and under the fence and me filling two big humpers with self set foxgloves growing on the soil mound that was the raised beds. That topped up the garden bin almost to the top. We both showered and then sorted out a load of old batteries to leave for the bin collection tomorrow. Since OH went I have cleaned the kitchen hob and microwave. I also did a wash of a few bamboo tops I have that can only have a cool wash, as I want to wear one to the hairdresser's tomorrow. So that's me done with chores for today. I've had some soup with yesterday's left over veg added for lunch.

AnnG you did really well getting all that HW done and I see Mel's got the HW bug today too! That does sound a fiddle to do with your photos. I still have a picturecard slot on this PC so it's easy to just transfer the picturecard as you say. My old phone had a microcard, but I just bought a full size picturecard that you slotted the microcard into so that was easy too. My new phone doesn't have a card though and the only way I can download the photos is with a great long cable. As there aren't enough slots to plug it into my PC with everything else I had to buy a hub with several outlets to do it. Similar to you, I keep thinking there should be an easier way but don't know it.

I've given the hoovering and dusting a miss Mandy! You must be near the finish line with the squares. What an achievement doing all those squares. I asked OH if his trainers were covered in cow pat and he assured me that he managed to carefully avoid them all. I hope he's right.

I wonder if Vera managed to have a good night with her back and whether it's a bit better today. It can seem just a twinge sometimes then stiffens up before it starts to ease.

Better do some paperwork now and tidy in here.

Mandy well, if you look back you will note it is quite a while since I last did any HW. I don't know what Mel's excuse is I think she is just copying me :-D :-D

Afternoon all,
Lovely sunny day with a little breeze and 26 degrees.

Here here what's with all this dusting and hoovering :-D I'm afraid I've been quite lazy ,just watered first thing and then enjoyed the sunshine sitting out having coffee and doing another square .

Hope Vera's back is a bit easier today.

Having a rest now and feeling virtuous. I cleaned the bathroom and cloakroom, dusted my bedroom, then cleaned the cooker hob. And finished by vacuuming the lounge dining room, hall and kitchen floors then dusting. I did take several breaks to rest my legs but I am pleased to get it all done. It is too hot (25 degrees) outside to do any gardening. Feels very warm in here as well. Not sure what to do after lunch, maybe just read a book. Although I do have a few letters to catch up with.

Good morning all. 16 degrees and sunny here. Nothing planned today so I will see how it goes. (Looking at the calendar there are several days like that this week.
Slept well again so hoping that will continue now for a while.
Vera hope you are feeling better today.

Ann my problem with photos now is when I download from the camera it is very different. I used to have a slot on the computer for the SD card so put the card in and the photos were immediately in 'my pictures'. Now I have a special USB (more money) with a slot in it. this then goes into the USB slot on the PC which opens up the photos on it. these photos now have to be down loaded into 'my picture' and at the same time put into a folder. The only way I can see to do it is time consuming. sliding the photos from the USB file into the 'My Picture' folder. There may be an easier, less time consuming way but I have not found it yet.

Evening all,

It's been 22 degrees here today a nice comfortable temperature,,bit cloudy at times but we did see a little sun.
We are both full we've just had a nice roast chicken meal .

Oh Vera I hope your poor back soon feels better ,its so easy to pull something in the garden ,rest up and don't try to do things to soon .

Oh no Ann not cow pat on his trainers, I think if there is you'll soon know ,I can see them being left outside in the air .

I meant to say that the big tomatoe in the photo was like heart shape ,not sure it showed up in the photo very well , I have several of the big ones coming along now .

I was going to say I've had a lazy day but I did cook the roast and cut the front grass so not to lazy .

Nearly done two more squares ,5 more to go ......I hope , if I've counted right :-0

AnninGlos Report 24 Aug 2025 18:22

Mel actually I said there were two big tomatoes then some smaller ones on one plant. Two plants grew the second plant has medium sized tomatoes.

Vera it is so easy to cause problems to your back gardening. Just reaching too far and it is too late. Take it easy now until it is better. Frustrating isn’t it?

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Aug 2025 18:09

O dear Vera you just take it easy for a day or two and get back into working order. Pleased you had some large toms from my seed I sent. Anng said hers were'nt very big.

The sweetcorn and large tomatoe was really lovely with a bit of bacon and my double yolker. I was just sitting there and BIL turned up as I had messaged him about the pond UV and he came and changed a bulb in it for me and its working again now. He did say that he needs to get some more seals for the ends as the tube that had gone came out all wet. He went home with 6ozs of runner beans and said they may not get home as he eats them raw.

Sorry I didn’t post yesterday. I did a bit of weeding and deadheading on Friday and I must have twisted or stretched awkwardly and my back didn’t like it. I spent the night sitting up and thought I was going to be in for several weeks of pain again but it is already feeling a lot better. Also yesterday I had a flare up of a long standing tummy problem so spent most of yesterday in bed.

That’s also why I didn’t get around to responding to Mandy and Mel’s emails. Mandy, your crochet squares look so neat and even and I like the colours. You are both doing well with your produce this year. Everything looks delicious. Well done both of you.

I told you our toms were pathetic this year. Would you believe I have just picked our first few? By now we’ve usually got tomatoes coming out of our ears. All I have picked this afternoon are 2 big ones from Mel’s seed and half a dozen cherry tomatoes.

OH has been clearing a bit more of the garage today and is finding more and more damage done by the mice we had a while ago. None of the damage looks new so I don’t think any more mice moved in after we caught the original 5. We found an old nest and it was inside one of OH’s welly boots which made me laugh though OH was not pleased.

Sitting at the computer is pulling on my back so I’m not going to type more now. Hope you all have a good night

I see you both popped in and I didn't notice. AnnG the footpath ends where the new little estate starts and I wondered if people had been feeding the cows and that they then tended to hang around there hoping for more? I haven't looked at his trainers yet or the porch doormat! I agree with you about these different photo sites. I spent ages doing the photos I would have entered in the show. I used to be able to click on all the photos I wanted to print on a page and a page would appear with them all on and you could size them etc. Now all I get is a page showing the first photo at the top and you can't scroll the page down to see if there are more! Eventually I spotted in tiny print at the bottom it said 1 of 2 and realised there was another on the page but still couldn't scroll. Why do they make things worse when they change them. :-S

We pulled up most of the Snapdragons today Mel as they were shrivelled up with the heat. I wanted to save some seed but there's a nice yellow one on the front that may come true from seed so I'll save some of that.

Lunch was nice, fresh salmon with cabbage and leek mix , parsnips and carrots a little mash and Hollandaise sauce to moisten it. OH has to be careful what he eats on Sundays now with taking his weekly alendronic acid pill as it can really unsettle his tum.

We've put a second wash out on the rotary and OH has washed up the things we use most days while I zapped more new nasty weed plants in the back garden. I don't know if I said but I saw one in a plant pot at the garden centre yesterday. It may be the way the neighbour who had this weed first got his.

We are both having a rest now. It's hot out there and has reached 24 degrees so I was glad to come inside. It's supposed to reach 28 degrees tomorrow so I will be off to the shop early. OH wants some cobs to make up and take to the match to eat as they don't sell anything healthy, it's all hot dogs and greasy chips!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 Aug 2025 15:11

Ann it sounds like the cows ganged up and made sure that people wouldn't want to walk in 'their' fiels. Hope his trainers were not stained.

Mel it is 25 here, too hot to be gardening. Is it coller whee you are if you stayed out so long?

I spent an hour sorting and downloading my holiday photos. and then once I had transferred them all to a folder, it disappeared and took me half an hour to locate it. with my old PC and Picassa it used to be so simple. Every time I do it now it is a fight to remember how to get it sorted.. that is done now anyway. I spent about 10 minutes cutting down a perenial sweet pea which had got tatty. Then came in to do an admin job. I shan't go back out in the garden now. Brown bin is not emptied this week anyway.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 Aug 2025 14:54

Been outside in the garden since 1.13pm and just came in cos I got hot. I hav'nt eaten yet either so I think I will get osmething to eat and then I won't want to go back out again.I have pinned down some new Strawberry runners as I am going to chuck a lot of the old plants this year as some arevery old. Pulled some dead leaves off pond plants and fed the fish. I really need to give all the plants down there by my shed a drink as they look like they need it.

I think I am going to have the nice cob of sweetcorn bacon and the big tom Angela gave me and an egg which I think it going to be a double yolker.

Morning All,

Slept well and you are right about the light going earlier in the evenings and being later in the mornings AnnG. I was thinking I need to put the alarm on for my morning pills as I've been later taking them the last couple of mornings. I need to have them early or lunch has to be later. It's good your leg is feeling better but be careful what you do today as you say. We did some weeding this morning, but had to stop due to backs and in my case also knees playing up. The garden bin is half full though which is good, but plenty more weeds still to tackle in the top border and behind the shed.

OH went for a walk while I got the veg done for lunch and braved walking across the shorter end of the field of cows as they were right at the other end of the field and ignored him. I'm not sure he will do it again, as where he climbed the stile at the end it was covered in lots of recent, slippery cow pats. I shudder to think what the bottom of his trainers are like!

Mel won't the UV light wait till BIL next comes? It is only to kill the algae to stop the water going green isn't it or does it do something else? Your neighbours must be loving your produce and fancy Mandy having over 70 cues up to now!

Lunch is ready so BBL.

nd the sky is grey andits 16 degrees same as you Anng bit pc says to expect rain over the next 5 days.

I think it this new keyboad causing problems.

Morning Anng and all,

Its overcast today and same as you Anng 16 degrees but the pc says to expect rain over the next 5 days. I suppose it will be good for the garden but not for gardening.

I have to get in touch with BIL today as I did the pond filter yesterday on the big pond and the UV light is out. He won't be pleased as he was here yesterday. Its one thing after another and seems never ending.

Good morning all. 16 degrees and quite bright. Nothing planned for today. Might walk down to Irene's as I have 6 of her books here to return. (I read a lot while at son's).

Leg did feel better Ann after not overdoing it uesterday so will go careful again today.

Had a good night's sleep last night. I have noticed the it getting light a lot later now and dark earlier :-( :-( :-( I don't look forward to winter. the short days are so isolating.

I do have a bit of tidying to do in the garden so I will see how that goes. And, of course, I should proabably do a bit of H/W, :-\
