Mandy lots of tomatoes ready to ripen looking good though you will be eating yours when mine have finished. Cucumbers look good are they nice flavours? Somebody gave me one recently it was not very long but was really fat and tough to chew with not a nice flavour.

I chuckled at that saying of your dad's Vera! I much prefer the old words for money like florin, tanner, thruppence and a bob and ten bob note! I have a feeling at the city horse sales when I was aged about 10 and would go with my friend they still sold the horses in guineas. I wonder when the new pence we have now will become old pence? You did well to manage an hour in the garden. I hope you aren't stiff tomorrow after doing it. We seem to have got out of the habit of crosswords too this year.
Thanks for the photos Mandy. You have a bumper crop of tomatoes as well as all the cues you have had. You could have a table on the front with your produce, but look out for ladies on mobility scooters! ;-)

I use roundup and buy the small 1 litre bottle ready made up. I did buy Asda's one but that was useless. The Roundup kills docks and dandelions and nettles and thistles. Ann have you triued watering between the pavings with a boiling kettle. I do that on the pation as I can't spray near the pond.
Picked more of the Beauty of Bath applease and went to Janines and gave her some and then to Arons and gave him some.
Thrup is waiting for me to go and corn the chickens so I better do that and feed the fish.
Its a lovely eveing I may go and sit by the pond with a G & T like we used to do.

I have the extra strong resolva but it doesn’t seem to work on weeds with large leaves. I have a lot of that weed that has leaves like clover and yellow flowers. Much more of it then usual this year in the patio cracks between pavers. The weather must suit it.

I was quite pleased with myself this morning as I managed a good hour in the garden but I’m paying for it now as I have completely stiffened up. We had our full roast dinner followed by strawberries and cream but now we both keep thinking it’s Sunday!
AnnG, OH quite likes Round Up as a weed killer. He buys the small bottle with the strong stuff that you have to dilute but I doubt if any weedkiller would be able to tackle all weeds.
It’s good that the physio is helping OH’s neck Annx. I didn’t know that about bumble bees and snapdragons so I’ve learnt something new. I’m glad you’re nearly there with your bathroom. It will be half a crown to talk to you soon, as my Dad always used to say :-D. That’ll be another saying dying out soon as twelve and a half pence doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as half a crown.
I hope all your memories today have been of love and laughter Mel <3. Yes, the library is still in the old Corn Exchange though it has changed internally over the years. I seldom go there these days. We do have a smaller library a bit nearer to us and I get books on my iPad through the Libby app.
Thank you for your good wishes Elizabeth. I hope you are having a lovely weekend.
I think I might take a look at a crossword now. I used to do the crosswords every day but I don’t seem to have any spare time lately. Right, I’m off to find the newspaper and a pen. Have a good evening and a peaceful night everyone.

Of course AnnG, it was Mavis and I don't know why I put Hilda Ogden, they are so different! Yes she was in Dinnerladies with the wonderful Victoria Wood who wrote it.
Regarding weedkillers I don't find them very good compared with what we used before all the restrictions on chemicals began. On the nasty weed I have used Resolva Lawn Weedkiller that doesn't kill the grass, but kills clover which the nasty weed is related to. It has killed some of it, but needs more than one application. I've got some Extra Tough Resolva to use on some of the dandelion type weeds that grow in the gravel as they are hard to get out without pulling up the weed fabric.

I think Thelma Barlowe played Mavis in Corrie (Rita's friend in the corner shop) Was she also in dinnerladies?
Yes I have been on statins for over 20 years and never had any problems I am on Simvastitin which is the lowest dose I think. If I ever get to see a GP when I return from son's (No point trying now, I will ask.
what weed killer do you use on your weeds and does it work?

Afternoon Ladies,
The sun is out here and OH has gone to a match with his friend, so there will no doubt be book talk as well as footie talk. :-) He went to physio earlier and says it really has helped his neck the last couple of times.
I went to the shop and passed a strange new house they are building just up the road from my teenage home. It appears to be mostly timber up to now and is on an angle with the whole of the end of the second floor being a large glass window that will have a view across fields of a granite hill next to the quarry. It's the same view mum and dad had from their bedroom window.
I hope you have some happy thoughts of the good times today Mel. <3 I think causing the puncture may be the best lesson for BIL not to drive over the branches as he has made himself an extra job sorting that out now. I popped an envelope in the post for you yesterday so look out for it. Have you had any problems with your Asda orders since they changed the site? Yesterday I got an email saying I had missed my recurring slot for tomorrow. When I checked it showed I had an order placed and paid for. This morning I got a text confirming delivery tomorrow???
Mandy I read the bumble bees are supposed to be the only insects that are heavy enough to open the Snapdragon flowers to pollinate them, so I wanted to save him if I could. I've put some on flowers before and watched them drink the nectar and revive, but this one was too weak to stand properly. Well the ceiling is 90% dry already and looks good so it should be painted and finished in there this week now. It doesn't look as if it will need any sanding so I've changed the bed and washed the bedding.
I bet you were glad of a better night's sleep AnnG but it might be worth seeing your GP if it's happening more now. You aren't on statins are you as they can cause muscle aches. Yes our Lavender needs cutting back too now it's going brown and very straggly.
I'm glad you seem to be on the mend Vera and feeling a bit better. Don't do too much today, enjoy a rest. I don't know how you and AnnG do so much and go out so much as well. Mind you I was watching Alan Titchmarsh interviewing Thelma Barlow (Hilda Ogden in Corrie years ago) before I got up this morning. She was so animated and lively, looked smart and still works and is aged 95!!

Good afternoon Eilabeth I hope that you are having a good weekend.
Mandy the flowers had all gone, it was not brown a sort of silvery mauve but the flowers were finished and there were no bees around it atall, and have not been for several days. It was an early one to flower. The four small ones out there I have not done yet. I just couldn't bend down (they are quite low) after doing the big one.''I have just had a go at some of the weeds growing between the paving slabs. It seems that, when it rains it encourages the weeds to grow all over the patios and front drive I have a strong (it says) weed killer but it doesn't seem to be doing anything at all. I will have to see what other people use with good results.

Afternoon all ,
Cloudy but the suns trying its hardest to shine and its quite warm out , family came this morning and went home with the cakes and four cucumbers.
Mel I hope you have a day of Happy Anniversary memories <3
Anng its a shame when the Lavender has to be cut as the bees love it but when it starts to go brown it has to go, I trimmed my small Lavender in the pot and its surprising how quickly its turned really green again so might get a few more flowers . Glad you had a better night sleep last night . You asked if I'd made those scones before with the date and walnuts no I just thought I would replace the fruit with date and walnut and hope for the best .
Vera I hope your feeling better ,your probably still tired from your weekend with the family it can be very tiring just chatting with people ,try and have a restful weekend .
Ann hope the plastering is drying out OK, you did a very good deed saving Mr bumble ,I've tried with some that have come in but sometimes it's just to late they just get worn out bumping against the window trying to get out ,I use to try and get them in an old fishing net that the children use to try and catch butterflies in but never did as they were to quick for them .

Just spent an hour trimming off all the dead 'flowers' of the large lavender out the front. Looks neater now but sad to see the end of the lavender. My garden bin smells lovely!!
I have to remember that I have a Tesco delivery this afternoon (4-5) If I am out in the garden I do tend to forget the time.

BIL came and has gone but he did empty the trailer for me. He came to change the oil on the mowers but after loking at the older one he decided to do it at the end of the season. He also got a punture in the new one. He will drive over branches I had cut off and Iv'e told him not to and the other day I had cut down a lot of sloe branches out the front. He went off with a nice freshly cut cuecumber.
Picked more toms today and cut some of the bottom leaves off the cue and the toms.

Good morning all. 13 degrees and sunny so maybe it is going to be a nice day, hopefully not too hot.
Thinking of you Mel, I do think that each year these 'days' do get easier to get through. I know that you will be sittinggoing through your memories when on your own, hopefully having BiL there will help.
I slept well last night so feel better today. Hopefully I can get a bit done in the garden, my problem is the aching legs and unstable ankly (which I do have strapped). I am hoping that, when I have the week at son's it will help the aches to ease. Unfortunately as most of that week, when not going out with son and DiL I am just sitting as there is nothing much to do there. I am happy reading but it doesn't help stiff legs.
Pleased that you feel a bit better Vera, but take it easy, don't overdo it.

Good morning all
Thinking of you today Mel. Remember the happy times <3.
I am still not feeling well but I am better than I was yesterday so onwards and upwards. I hope you all slept well and are OK this morning.
At the moment it’s cool and cloudy but there is no rain forecast for today so I am going to try and raise the energy to spend at least a short while in the garden. I’m also going to have our Sunday roast dinner today so I’ve got a chicken and veg to cook. Otherwise I have no plans.

Came in from the garden at 7.33pm has been out over an hour. It was so windy here today I had to put a oat on. I have cut down some of the brimbles and ivy off the potting sheds and taken most of a sycamore tree out on the end of the big old workshop out the front. Loaded the trailer and brought that down and parked it out the back by the chickens as I did'nt want to leave it out the front. Then I put the mower back in the garage and came in. I'm tired now and not very hungry so may just have a nice boiled egg or a poached one on toast, less hassle.
So sorry you are feeling unwell Vera and I do hope you get a better nights sleep tonight and you did'nt get that migraine. Is the library still in the old corn exchange in Sudbury? I think thats where it was when I lived in Suffolk.
Right feed myself or I shall have no energy for tomorrow. I think BIL is coming again tomorrow so will see if I can get him to help clear a bit more.
