You need some ear plugs Anng when they are around or take your hearing aids out!!.

No the man did'nt come again but they did say he would ring before coming. Its so awkward when you are on your own because if you are on the loo when they come as they did before I had to bang on the window and ask them to wait a mo. BIL came this mroning just to pick up the deisel cans and I was just finishing washing so had to put my robe on and tell him but he said SIL was still not well so he was'nt coming in. He took the cans and went.

I have decided I have had enough chicken for tonight so I got a nice stew out of the freezer a home made one and I shall have some tenderstream broccoli with it and a couple of my roast pots from last night. May even do a dough boy in with the brocc.

Good value Mel

Yes it is tiring Mandy, and this morning we also had granddaughter in law who lives down the road with Inara and Senua both of whom are so noisy rolling all o er the floor little one copying big sister who spends much of her time either being a dinosaur or a Pokémon. (Loudly).

I missed your post there Vera as you posted just before me.

I'm pleased it all went off well yesterday and you all enjoyed yourselves with good cheer and laughter. Its so nice of you to do this for everybody in the close and you've not had to do lunch today either.

I am still eating this small chicken I cooked on Boxing Day.

Afternoon all,

The wind seems to be getting up again and irs a lot colder today ,the night before last was really windy and I woke every hour with the sound of the wind buffeting on the house .
I nipped up the town this morning and went into Boots to get our tablets and then to Bon Marche to have a look in the sale got a nice blue top for ten pounds and a new nightie for six pounds ,as I passed the Card Factory I bought some Christmas paper half price and some Christmas cards .

Vera it sounds as if your evening went off OK and the food when down well with leftovers for an easy meal today .

Mel I hope the men have turned up today and can get things sorted ,it's been going on so long now and that bill isn't getting any smaller is there still a leak .

Anng your right about the young ones eating well I don't know where they put it ,they must have hollow legs I think :-D it's surprising how tiring all the chatting can make you I was worn out after they had all gone home.

Hope Gill is OK we haven't heard from her since before Christmas.

Vera exactly. Sad to see them go but they have so much energy, talk a lot and eat enormous amounts.

Mel, possibly until the 10th. Not sure yet.

Are you staying for the new year Ann?

Suns out here and the wind has dropped but its still cold at 8 degrees and pc says mostly sunny.

I am hungry and my tum is rumbling so I better get something to eat.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 29 Dec 2023 11:40

It’s still breezy but the wind has eased quite a lot. It’s dry but there’s not much sign of blue sky or sun.

I hope your water people turn up and sort you out Mel.

AnnG, if you’re like me you love having the family around and enjoy the noise and bustle but heave a sigh of relief when they go and it’s quieter again.

Our “do” last night went very well. Two people who had accepted dropped out at the last minute as they were both unwell but everyone else came. There was a lot of laughter and the food went down well with enough left over to make a good lunch for us. Mel, everyone loves these get-togethers which only happen at Christmas or for a special occasion but there are only 2 of us who seem prepared to host them (there are 7 dwellings in our little cul-de-sac).

I hope anyone who reads the thread and has been unwell is feeling better now

I’m having a really lazy day today. For last night we moved furniture around and moved the Christmas tree so we have put the room straight again and I have done some tidying up. OH has gone out for a little while so I’m just going to relax for a while with the newspaper and a coffee..

Good morning all, still a bit windy but not so strong and blustery. A bit showery too. Young generation go home today so it is a bit chaotic here at the moment as they collect all their bits and pieces ready to pack up the car.

Hope the water board men come today Mel.

And hope the drinks and nibbles (which sounded more like a light meal to me) went well.
We used to do the same with Cynth and Phil when both he and T were alive but they never ate very much. I assumed they had eaten before they came to us.
It will be strange here to go back down to three again when the family have left.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Dec 2023 09:04

Morning all,

Not quite as windy today I think but it is raining. Pc says 8 degrees and cloudy so not a lot of change there then.

Now I don't know if the water men are coming today or not but they said they would call me before they come but do they ever?

I have to go up the shop for my scripts today as the receptionist said she would drop them in before she went to work so it must have been Steph I talked to as she lives in Shebbear.

Anng I do hope the boiler is ok when you get home and that it was just the thing that happened before so can be mended.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Dec 2023 19:09

He squirrels them away does he Vera? Hope you have a lovely chat with your neighbours. Does anyone else do this sort of thing for the neighbours in your little close?

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 28 Dec 2023 18:52

It’s good that the water people are going to come more quickly Mel.

It’s not good that your boiler seems to be on the blink again AnnG. I hope it doesn’t prove to be too costly.

I’m now waiting for the neighbours to arrive. I invited them for 7 pm. Everything is ready. I had a panic this afternoon as I had cooked little sausages and cut up other stuff to go on sticks and I couldn’t find the sticks. I had a big box of 2000 and they disappeared so it was a trip to Sainsbury’s where they had one box of 150 left on the shelf. As well as the bits on sticks we’ve got little sausage rolls and duck spring rolls, mini crustless quiches, cheese straws, crisps and nuts, little tomatoes and cucumber sticks. Then there are mince pies and chocolate biscuits. I only invited them for drinks and nibbles so I think that’s enough.

I’d better go and make sure OH isn’t eating all the nuts before any one arrives.

I have rung them again this morning and they said they would send someone today or tomorrow. I said I had an appointment with them for the 10th January but thye said they will send someone before then and they have put the bil on hold again.

Done the washing in the machine today and had to drain it many times but at least its all done.

We've had a heavy shower of rain but also had some sunshine today and still the very high winds whihc have broken my little plastic greenhouse. I just hope once the wind drops and I can get down to it I can fix it. Its bent a couple of poles.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 28 Dec 2023 11:42

Oh gosh it is mounting up. And another two weeks at least before they come to fix it.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 28 Dec 2023 09:59

Good morning all. Dry at the moment but still very windy. Just heard from Cynth, something to look forward to when I go home. The rads are cold again so the heating must have gone off. It might be the wind has blown the pilot out but probably just means whatever caused it to go off before has happened again.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Dec 2023 09:52

Morning all,

Ita a bit brghter here this morning with some watery sunshine but its still quite windy. Its so nice when the wind drops and its all quiet again.

O poor Vera you don't like to offend people but some just go on and on about nothing interesting. They sound as though they are both the same so its good they have each other.

Nothing planned for today. I may do some washing cos there's always a bin full. Feed the girls and wild birds and thats about my day finished.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 27 Dec 2023 20:56

I’m late on parade again. It’s been another busy day. I decided to do just one load of washing this morning and had a tidy up while it was going round the machine. Then daughter and her partner arrived with my phone. They only had time for a coffee before leaving again. It was good of them to add quite a few miles to their journey to bring the phone back.

There were one or two phone calls and then after lunch I changed my mind on some of my finger food for the neighbours tomorrow so decided on a quick trip to the nearest supermarket. Only it wasn’t a quick trip. Not only was it very busy but we met a couple we know, pleasant enough people but a bit odd. He insisted on telling us the plot of the last 3 films he’d seen and then the wife described several restaurant meals they had eaten in the past and how much they had cost. In the end I am afraid I had to tell a little white lie in order to get away without offending them.

By the time we had got home and I had sorted out the shopping it was time to prepare and cook our dinner.

All morning was so dark and gloomy and this afternoon we had some heavy rain again. It’s been pretty windy on and off and apparently we have more wind and rain to look forward to tomorrow. Oh joy!

I have just moved my solar lights into the west window as we now have a little sun AND enough blue sky to make a sailor a pair of trousersThe wind has seemed to drop too.

This morning just after 21pm it was so dark the solarmeter on the wall had its red light on which means it is shutting down as its getting dark.

Not many two slot toasters in Curry’s but they do have two Russell Hobs. Also went to Dixon a furniture/homeward store for coffee and they also had some two slot toasters so I know what I am looking for now. Came back home for lunch, youngsters have gone to Keswick and it is dark and still wet and windy. So….. back to reading.
