I would be very wary before you decide to upgrade to Platinum to receive the 1911 census, which is what I did about a week ago. Most of my research is done in the Channel Islands. I haven't been able to access any Channel Island 1911 census at all, have been in touch with GR they asked me who it was I was looking for and they would find them. Well I gave them a particular person who I know is on the 1911 census because I have it from FMP, well they came back with persons with the same surname but not the one I am looking for. So I'm completely mystified, and thoroughly fed up have emailed them 4 times, but they haven't replied to the last 2. There is no contact number so where do I go from here?

Hi Cheryl

I e-mailed GR because my credit card wasn't accepted, although it is the same one I used last year and everywhere else. The person who replied to me said that they couldn't help me as they all worked from home. Consequently I guess this is why there is not a contact telephone number.

You could try for a refund and to be put back to where you were on the basis that the 1911 they offer is not complete

Good luck

Hi Wendy

Thanks for your reply, yes I'm really frustrated over this, they are insisting they have the 1911 Channel Island census but its obvious they haven't. I have just sent them another email saying that if they can't sort the problem out I would like a refund.

You'd think a big company like this they would have some sort of office with a contact number. I wonder why?

I have just found the problem well not me exactly but another GR member, my maiden name is De Carteret, and I have never had a problem before with researching this name. This kind lady said to try just putting Carteret in and hey presto the name came up. What they have done is to put the De in front of the first name, which is a problem because a lot of Channel Islanders have French surnames Le Page, Le Sauvage etc.

So they maybe have a bit more work to do on the 1911 Census. Thanks everyone I can now get back to doing a bit of researching!!

Hi Wendy,

Spoke too soon, they have just a handful of De Carterets, and there are hundreds maybe thousands in the Channel Islands. I have been researching De Carteret in my family line and Ive gone back to 960. So its back to square one. They obviously havent even gone a quarter of the way on the Channel Island 1911 Census, and what theyve done is mistranscribed.

Ive emailed GR and asked for a refund see what happens. Wendy I see you are in Tenerife, I live in the Algarve, Portugal. Its very hot here at the moment. Anyway I'll let you know what happens.

Bye for now,
Cheryl.

Hi
I did read on another site that the first part of the 1911 census would be out in April the rest at the end of the year. It was so big they had to do this.
