Good Morning All, I hope this catches Ron's eye.
Ron, when you put the seeds in granite, do you mean a mixture of sand and peat, as you would for cactis. Also, when you put them in the 'mini greenhouse' how long does it take to see the first signs of growth.
As you can tell, I am taking this seriously. Well, at the price for a packet of seeds of these, you have to be serious.
Many thanks

Hi Julia
I use Seed compost and mix in a small handfull of the little white grannett stones you get from any garden center.
Once you have put them in to a mini like greenhouse it can take as long as couple of months before you see any sign of growth.
It's just one of the things you have to wait and see if it worked on that accasion or not. I have had a good % of growth rate doing it this way.
Hope this helps.

Hi Julia
Soak the seeds for 2 to 4 days and put them in a warm place wile doing so, so as to keep the water a little warm.
When you see the seed start to split, put them in compost with a little granite in with the compost Try and place a bag over the pot you have put the seed in, so it acts like a mini greenhouse. It helps if you store them in a dark warm place like an airing cupboard. Keep watered so the seed remains damp, but don’t over water them.
As you see the first sign of growth take it out and keep it in a place with good soft light but not in direct sunlight right away. Later as it gets bigger you can move it to a conservatory or an area like that.

Hope this helps you.

Hi Julie. I like to know who I am talking too, and havn't seen you much lately.LOL Post on another thread this morning, and not a clue as to who the person is

Perhaps sometime, when you are talking to him, you could bring the subject up. He must have the perfect conditions, and those all important green fingers.

Many thanks

Has anyone successfully grown Bird of Paradise from seed. I have had many a go at these over the years, but have never been successful even to get them to germinate, although it does say on the packet, that they do take a time.
I just wondered if anyone had managed to do it. I am usually very greenfingered with everything else, but these have got me abit foxed.
Please enjoy your day, whatever you are doing.
