Well I never. The OH went to the building society to get a cheque for me for £26 to pay for some plants. He asked me if I wanted him to draw the cash and get a postal order, but I said, no, becaus we would have to pay on the postal order
Blow me, he has just told me he was charged £10 for the £26 cheque. And, you cannot draw less than £100 from the hole in the wall now.
I couldn't believe this. If they carry on like this, I will draw it all out, and keep it under the mattress. Flippin' cheek

Hi Julia,
I was informed by Nationwide that they would start charging £10 a cheque from July 2nd.
I usually get one out to pay rent & council tax.
I tried paying by direct debit, but the rent department took over 3 months - that's MONTHS to set it up, then demanded another month (I pay at the beginning of the month, so I'm already a month in credit) in advance!!

I Immediatley cancelled the direct debit, and obviously won't set one up again, so will have to try to get a cheque book from the building society - but they're trying to phase them out too!
I don't want to pay with a card - not enough control over it!

Iv'e got an old N/Wide account, only a few quid in it, they won't let me draw any money out without a photograph type driving licence or a passport as proof of id, i havn't got either.
