...guess who's going to take photo's of the vans/cars etc blocking pavements by busy roads - and I come across many whilst walking to work!!!

Beverley, I would have offered mine, but yours about the moped pre-emptively beat it.

What the heck ... ;)

I had clients years ago who lost four chidlren under the age of five -- four, count 'em four -- in a car crash. The mother was driving and suffered serious injuries from her seat belt (broken pelvis and ribs). The kids were unsecured in the back part of the station wagon ("estate car"?) and all went flying and were killed.

I found it very disturbing to see unsecured kids in cars in any case, and they were too common then, back in the 80s. After hearing that story, I took to yelling at drivers whose kids weren't fastened down.

Anyhow, my favourite was: being passed on the highway by a car with what were obviously twin girls in the front seat, looked to be about two and a half, both standing up and leaning on the dashboard. From the rear-view mirror over their heads dangled a rosary ...

Who needs seat belts and car seats when you've got that?

Saw in Newcastle today, an adult male fleeing down the road on a skate board and jumping off it at a junction to avoid colliding with a van!

Eeyore, same goes for company vans etc. I thought there was a law for that too, as others have to use it, even if the 'others' don't object.

Its amazing the amount that use mobiles even going round corners and roundabouts.
I think they should really throw the book at the ones caught ie 3 mth driving ban plus a heavy fine. Or make them resit their test. That would give them something to think about before they use it again while driving.

The very first time I ever saw anybody using a mobile phone in a car was a long time ago -- I was still driving my first car, a rusting 1983 pre-Samurai Suzuki jeeplet, so it was in the mid-late 80s. He was driving a very spiffy new Samurai with all the bells and whistles.

My Suzuki mechanic later told me he'd tried to get some of those bells and whistles (like those aggressive horrible "fog lights") basically for free, just because he was entitled.

Entitled he was. His daddy is a big real estate developer hereabouts, and had gifted him with a highrise apartment building for his 21st birthday.

The best part was that he then decided that one of the mortgage holders should discharge the mortgage for him, without him paying. The mortgagee needed a little persuading, so he held a gun to his head.

Yes, that discharge will stand up in court ...

;)

Oh - the moral of the story! What kind of person uses a mobile phone while driving ... ;)

I live on a main road and it's an eye opener!

I've seen drivers, eating, drinking, phoning, reading newspapers, applying make up and shaving whilst they go past. Fry ups, no. but scary.....very, very scary.

The plods here in Devon have aquired a lorry so that they can see what lorry drivers are up to on the motorway. A news report a week or so back told of an incident where the police had caught a lorry driver cooking a fry-up on a primus stove in his cab whilst driving.

coming back on the M4 yesterday, we were in the centre lane (all three lanes were clogged as usual in this section). Doing about 60, overtook a chap who was only just doing less than 60 and he was...

Now how could he have control of his vehicle with both hands occupied?
