The Dove project that has since been ditched for lack of money ,was going to go back on all the births from 1837 and add the mmn onto the GRO record, It was a goverment dept project for the GRO that was started then came to a halt.
Would have been great for those births that came between census and never appeared again,
Must say the 1911 census have thrown up the info that has helped on how many children born etc

The search function here really is pretty useless for any common name. You don't want to be too specific about birthplace because of the various spellings, and where tree owners have got their info from -- or even about birthdate -- since info in trees commonly comes not from birth certificates, but from rather censuses, family stories, guessing, etc.

Anything that helped narrow it down would help, and mother's birth surname would be a terrific idea! Most tree owners have people's parents in their trees -- until they get back to their "brick wall" generation -- so if the search function is actually searching trees, that would seem be possible. (To my untrained mind -- I can use a search engine for all it's worth, but I have no idea how this one here works.) I suspect it's just searching a list of names in each tree, though, and that wouldn't allow for connecting one name in a tree to another.

Mother´s maiden names weren,t included in the records until 1911.
The only place you might be lucky enough to find them is on Familysearch.

I been looking for different surnames of possible children of ancestors & i think if they added in the search where you can put in Mother's Maiden Name this i feel would results in a lot better connections also stop a lot of wasted time.
This is especially so when you have very common surnames such as Smith, Barnes, Browns Jones & you have a marriage to one of these common names but don't know if there was any children what do others think may be the management would conside adding this field in to searches
