What have been the best World Cups for you?
My favourite World Cups are Mexico 1970. The match between Brazil and England was brilliant and I can remember it being said before the match that anyonw with a weka heart shouldn't watch the match!
Argentina 1978 was good was well.

Hi, Pat. I loved the last World Cup in Germany. The Aussies did so well and it was so disappointing when we lost to Italy. I can remember having an evening nap so we could stay up late to watch Australia play. I also loved watching Beckham captaining the team in the Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup. I thought he was very inspiring.

Did England make 1978 I thought we all followed Scotland that year, then Ireland in 1998 or was it 1994?

England didn't make it to the World cup in1978 or 1994. Sometimes it's better if England aren't there because it's not so stressful!

Italy 1990 for me. I was 20...and had a very understanding boss who used to let me take sickies whenever I wanted to the whole month (summer was a slow time) on the premise that I'd make the hours up when we were busier...so the whole thing just felt like a non stop party. Remeber about 20 of us doing a Mexican wave in the pub lololol...we got SO into it all. Cried my eyes out when we lost on penalties...but that World cup was magical...one of the top golden times I remember in my life x

1966 for me. I was living in Singapore with my parents aged 15. My brother had his birthday the same day as the final and instead of a party we all sat round the radio listening to the commentary. I wish I had been as keen on footie then to appreciate the occasion. As a football lover now having had 2 sons play for local teams from the age of 8 upwards to when they were 17 I can honestly say I am so looking forward to the games.

Sorry .....................I was 15 not my parents Lol

Even though I am a kiwi - and we didn't even feature in 1966.

Geoff Hurst's hat trick in 1966 would have to be "simply" the best - "better than all the rest"
NZ did not get TV till the sixties - and then we got lots of soccer then and I became an avid Hammers supporter - every Sunday evening my dad and I would watch the soccer.

I don't mind if England is there Pat - doesn't stress me. I have enjoyed every world cup - probably because we aren't participating so I am not falling off the end of my seat.

Cheers Perse

The only one I watched was 1966. My boyfriend at the time (known as Lurch) insisted on a gang of us watching it at a friend's house. It was watch it or miss out seeing the boyfriend...lol

I don't do football as such but memories are of 1966 and world cup Willie

I used to ride a horse called Willie so we dressed him up in blue and white and all the football regalia and entered the gymkana in fancy dress and won.

was telling OH about it and he said England play in red and white ..I smiled ...and said check it out WORLD CUP WILLIE was in blue.

As a publican I can honestly say that I have rarely watched a match. Twice I have gone to France for the 14th June, and the England v germany game I was at home for I was in the kitchen.

edit to say I do remember that one as some idiot tried to drive his car into my pub yard narrowly missing 30 people
