I also remember people DID keep off the grass if there was a sign.

And yes, drinking fountains. It seemed you could never get enough of that water. I never drank water at home - just in parks.

I remember when parents friends and neighbours were always called Mr and Mrs or Aunt andUncle

Oh I remember that too.

Our neighbour was always Aunty Sheila and Uncle Eric. They were called that until I got married and was told to drop the Aunty and Uncle. It took a long time to get used to.

yeah we visit an old neighbour who is 94 and still call her Mrs ****** I couldno more call her Gwen than fly to the moon

I think it was something to do with 'respect for your elders'.
