I've got apple mint, peppermint and ordinary mint growning in my herb garden now. had to chop the apple back the other day as it was growing like mad. Anybody got any ideas what to do with the apple mint? any recipies greatly received.

Thanks
Helen

Ann that is what I thought about it, it doesn't seed and I read that as it wouldn't keep growing each year (wasn't sure) ( I have already put call out for apple mint aswell ) .....there is also a spearmint that grows well.

.....lol if I can't have money I will be the best minted on the site :-)))))

Ann thanks for coming back on that.

I grew it last year, same as ordinary mint, apple mint ets in pots. However it seemed to disappear after the hard winter so not sure if it would normally come up each year or if it is best treated as an annual.

I have altered the title slightly for others.

Most would say me chocolate mint ...after eights (sorry Kemp) and would be right ...apart from I don't do chocolate that much.

Hey I can keep a bar of choc in the fridge for 6 weeks....(a new thread)

lol Julia I am thinking that the Alpine not only has white flowers but also has white leaves ...some-one correct me if I am wrong. I think it would be an interesting contrast to some dishes with mint (that's if it tastes the same).
The reason I didn't post earlier is because I knew you would need a reason to return to the garden centre :-))

As I said earlier I am NOT a gardener (love plants they don't love me) but I do love a herb garden and it's something I can grow in pots. Have Rosemary but Basil died on me in the cold of winter, so I need to get more of that. I will also this year grow chives.
Half the time I don't/can't use all that I grow but I love the smells, especially after the rains.

Uzzi, you should have posted this earlier, and I could have looked in my garden centre for this. Went to garden centre this morning, and said to OH, I don't need to go down and look at the herbs. Now I wished I had,and looked at the Alpine Mint.
Oh well, I'll just have to go again, (good excuse for a lunch, and pick up yet again more plants)LOLOL

Ann .....come back was it easy to grow and does it grow like normal mint, ie. on a takeover bid if you let it . Or does it die off once used ?

I have to own up OH is taking my mint into work at the mo to make Mojitas as their mint patch has disappeared, and that is what made me think of chocolate mint.

Noooo Kemp I want to grow chocolate mint as in the herby variety
(that's herby in plants not as a car lol )

I'm also thinking of Alpine mint (is that the one with white flowers ?)

I saw on a cookery programme to decorate chocolate mousse with chocolate mint. I have grown it before but not got any at the moment.

Okay so I'm not a great gardener, it took reading another thread for me to realise that I have a whole load of house leeks.

Anyway I can grow mint and have had my mint pot for nearly 3 years so now I like the idea of chocolate mint.
Has anybody tried growing it and is it useful ?
