Just seen this on my internet news service:-


Colombian authorities find World Cup trophy made of cocaine at Bogota International Airport

The 36-centimetre-high (14-inch-high) statue was inside a box headed for Madrid, Spain. The statue was painted gold with green stripes on the base.

........... laboratory tests confirmed the cup was made of 11 kilos (24 pounds) of cocaine mixed with acetone or gasoline to make it mouldable.

No wonder they were suspicious....why on earth would the world Cup be heading for Spain, when the tournament is currently on in South Africa?

Obviously not the brightest drug trafficers in the world !!

Enterprising ,methinks..isnt the so called real one only a copy? as the original was stolen?

WOW..... anyone with the talent to do that must be able to do something spectacular... and legal.... to make money.

Is that right Bob, they were playing for a 'fake'?

The one they play for MAY be real, in the true sense of the word, but I think that the original is now never let out....(of course thats as far as I know)

On 20 March 1966, four months before the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England, the trophy was stolen during a public exhibition at Westminster Central Hall.[3] The trophy was found just seven days later wrapped in newspaper at the bottom of a suburban garden hedge in Upper Norwood, South London, by a dog named Pickles.[4]

As a security measure, The Football Association secretly manufactured a replica of the trophy for use in the post-match celebrations. The replica was also used on subsequent occasions until 1970. The replica was sold at an auction in 1997 for £254,500, when it was purchased by FIFA. The high auction price, several times the reserve price of £20,000-£30,000, led to speculation that the auctioned trophy was not a replica. Subsequent testing by FIFA confirmed the auctioned trophy was indeed a replica. [5] Subsequent to the auction, FIFA arranged for the replica to be displayed at the English National Football Museum in Preston.
