Wow Rag and Bone man, now there is a memory.

My mother had my hide when I swapped my nice new coat for some sweets when I was a lass.

I wish we had one, evrything else is collected on different days by council. We have three rubbish days a week, each for different things.

and anyone who now gives "rubbish" to a rag & bone man who doesn't have a registered waste carriers licence can face a fine (think it's up to £5.000 now) so please be careful

When I was a child we had a rag and bone man, who came round with his elderly daughter, with a horse and cart. He would give me a ride on the horse, and my mother told me she used to wash me with Dettol afterwards, and change my clothes - evidently the horse was not very clean!

Just googled it. The donkey stone was called that after the little donkey stamped on most blocks of donkey stone. Very nice the steps looked too when done.
