Our 18year old cat

I had to make the same decision about my old boy ( who was also 18 ) almost a year ago . I comforted myself with the knowledge that he had had a full and happy life with me ( even if he did drive me to distraction in the last few years because he went a bit dotty...lol ) .

Hope your memories of your furry friend give you comfort Jean .

So sorry about your little pet.
It is such a shock when they go isn't it?
We do not have one now as we are not able to look after a dog or even a cat.
I do remember the pain of losing our pets.

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends, so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

Very sad Jean. Remember this is how we reward our lovely pets for the love and companionship by releasing them from pain or illness when it's too much and allowing them to go with dignity. Take care of yourself.

Jean, I'm sorry to hear about your cat, but as the others have said, you did the best thing. Although it's a difficult decision to make, it's better than seeing him suffer, and not being able to do anything to help him.
Although, we've never had a cat, we had to make the same decision with our Labrador some years back.

Thinking of you!

love, Sallie.xx

Sorry to read this Jean.
Such a long time of companionship.
As others have said it will take time, but you will never forget.

Oh and doesn't it hurt! Each and every time I've been through this I wonder why on earth we have pets, but then, they bring such joy and I have loved each and every one of them.

You gave him such a good life - and I expect he was a happy cat being with you. Don't forget that.

Oh Jean, I am sorry, I know what it feels like, having had to do the same some years ago, and more than once as well.

You gave your cat the best life and all the love he needed and this was the ultimate kindness, altho it brings such grief to you all.

Will be thinking about you

Our cat went the same way. He was 16 and the vet said we were not being fair to him keeping him here. The vet came to the house and my husband cuddled him while he had the injection. We were both very sad.

Your cat had a long life and you looked after him.
Look after yourself now

Hello Jean....l am sorry, you have had a rough day today. Maybe Sweetie (the outdoor cat) is here for a reason, maybe she and Lizzie will become friends!
We love our animals to pieces don't we, you know what l am like with Madoc?

Hamish will be watching Sweetie and keeping an eye on her.

You take care now.

Jean, I am so sorry, they become so much a part of our lives and our families, don't they? But he enjoyed life to the full with you, and thatis the important thing.

My old girl is 18, too, so I am preparing myself.

So sorry to hear about Puss. we lost our old guy at 17+ when it was obvious the kindest thing was to get the injection. Its not easy i know .I broke my heart several times over the following weeks after he went , but try to remember all the love he gave you and the happy times, and how happy he was to be your puss.
You did the kindest thing for him and he is now at peace , bless him

Has finally given up, he was so unwell the vet decided the kindest thing was to give him the injection. So it is a very distressed house here tonight.
