I don't think it's compassion that people lack so much as imagination - and a decent newspaper.

If it's fear, then is it fear of the unknown?
If so - there's a simple way to overcome the fear - learn about it - then it won't be unknown!!!
Some people, however, prefer to live in their ivory towers sl*gging off everything they don't understand.
When it comes down to it - it's their loss!!!
Perhaps - through compassion - we should feel sorry for them!!

oooh Matron!!!

I must admit I have developed a habit of not listening to the ignorant, uncaring ones. Too much negativity drags me down and I don't want to be dragged down. At work I put headphones in and listen to the radio or a cd just to blot out some of the cr*p.

But, does that make me guilty of lack of compassion in my own way? Worrying.

To be honest I see compassion and kindness all around on a daily basis. I do see ignorance too but on the whole people are good and a lot of people do try very hard to understand. If you think I'm idealistic I'm not but this world is a wonderful place and it can be very depressing to focus on the bad and brush aside the good.

Oh and..... "out with depression and in with anger...." deep breaths

Or if you watched the doctor films "big breaths".

It is ignorance or fear. Fear that they don't know how to handle the situation, or fear that the situation could somehow impact on their lives. Ignorance of how to deal with it, or ignorance - not understanding. or ignorance not wanting to understand. Of course it might be easier to discuss a specific.

Maggie is right, it is ignorance and there is absolutely nothing you can do to change that Rose.

But, personally, I am very happy to see you have shaken off depression and embraced anger....much more healthy:)) BC XX

What you've described isn't a lack of compasion Rose, it's ignorance!!
The most highly educated of people can be ignorant - and many are!!
Can't see further than their own noses.

As for anger to overcome depression - go for it! LOL
I regularly rant to friends on the phone about the cr*p I've heard MP's coming out with on the radio etc.
Have to say, some politicians have no idea of the 'real' world and are therefore ignorant.
It's their job to work for us 'common' lot - but if they've no idea of our problems ie a lot of us earn less than some of them receive in allowances - and they don't seem to care - they're ignorant.

A rant gives me a wonderful feeling of freedom - and quite often the friend I'm ranting at agrees with me - which makes me feel even better!!

Discuss....when people criticise and hate, based on people being' different' or somehow 'inconvenient'...compassion and basic bloody human kindness get thrown out the window... no thought that because someone isn't 'like you' they don't share the same rights to live or love or even warrant a degree of sympathy and an effort to understand what has made them who they are .

Isn't that the mark of a civilised society? that it can 'embrace' not just 'tolerate' differences?

rant over will probably delete...but I think I just found a way out of depression... lol out with depression in with anger!
:)
