The male cat is pure white with a black tail and nose. The kittens were three black and white, one exacly like dad, and one black with white feet and chest. They went off in a cage very quietly, so did mum. Her wound doesnt look bad at the moment, but she is still pining. Will try and phone to find out about kittens in the week. Lizzie is most antagonistic towards other cats, only tolerated Hamish because he was here first.
Thanks for the advice, Daff. Havent had a cat with kittens for over fifty years, so am a bit out of touch!

It is so funny to watch that, isn't it, Jean? Is the dad black by any chance? I had a black cat who ate like that... he died in 1999, but I now have a 3 year old black cat who also eats like that occasionally... particularly if there is a mix of tidbits and he wants to get his favourite out first. And they are male... maybe it is a *mancat* thing?

I saw your thread, and watched it... didn't dare to submit any posts, I did start but ended up deleting... cos I kept offering to take a couple of the kittens and bring them home. But I have 5 already!! Plus a couple of regular visitors.

Our latest addition, a 3 legged 4 year old tortie called Jessie, moved in last Bonfire week without so much as a by-your-leave. The main problem with her is she is sweet as a nut with children and people, but very territorial with other cats. She started to give one of my boys a dreadful time, so I had to stop feeding her myself, or petting her, to put her back into her *place* at the bottom of the hierarchy. I am slowly re-introducing the petting, and make a point of it when I have Hermie with me. It is slowly working. But I think a kitten or two might have a very hard time from her, and I don't want to risk it.

Polgara is 18, and although managing well, and still has her kittenish moments.... well, she is on medication which will shorten her life, but will make her more comfortable during it. We always seem to end up with 5 animals in the house.... 2 dogs, 3 cats, etc etc... so it will be interesting to see who moves in with us as Pol is leaving. That is how it happens here. So someone will breach Jessie's defences, I am sure ;¬))

You did wonderfully by those kittens and their mum... does she have a name? She'll pine for 3 to 5 days after the last baby goes, incidentally. Well, that has been my experience. Hers all left in one fell swoop, so she probably still has a quite a bit of milk... so part of her anxiety will be to do with distress at having full teats... as that eases, so she will feel better. When they go one by one, her milk flow gradually reduces so she doesn't feel so much discomfort.

Watch for signs of continued discomfort.... as with us ladies, there could be a bit of inflammation/mastitis if she doesn't settle down in a few days.

Do you remember Arthur the white cat on the Whiskers advert, he eat his food from the tin with his paw.

Your poor cat must be awful for her. How were the kittens when they went?

That we fed and who brought us her kittens. Well, the kittens were taken on Wed by Cats protection, and she was taken off to be spayed. On the Thursday afternoon we brought her back to her own area, and the first thing she did when she shot out of the cage was go shouting for her kittens. She is so distressed and is still looking for them this morning. She has been helped on and off by the father of the kittens, too. She left him some of her food this morning and the first time in a lifetime of cats that I have ever seen it, there was some food a bit difficult to get at on the edges of the dish, so he put his paw in and pulled it all together in the middle of the dish. A brainy cat!
