Does anyone know if it's possible to find out why someone changed their name by deed poll.

Thank you for your reply. What i'm trying to find out is, what the reason was why they changed their name. Just wondering if there is a way of finding out that reason.

I changed my names by "statutory declaration" thirty years ago. The reason being I did n't want my relatives to ever find me. They have n't.
People have their reasons.

Hello Tinky

Thank you for that. I didn't think you could find out why a person changed their name, unless that person was prepared to tell you. This particular person is not around now, just thought there may of been a way of finding out.

Thank you Susan. Have explored most Avenues, but have now hit a brick wall. Don't suppose I'll ever find out, but it is intriguing though.

Interestingly my husband and I decidede to change the surname of our children because we were lead to believ that the one being used was not correct in that the family had variously made "slight alterations" and this was from their paternal grandfather.
Since I have been doing research I have learnt that that also was wrong info!!!!

There were 10 siblings including my father in law and they all changed the spellings it is a nghtmare!!

Like Eddie, I changed my name by Stat. Dec. I didn't have to state a reason.

there can be a huge varity of reasons.

eg.
Changing a mistake made in an earlier generation.
Wanting the same surname as parents
Trying to get away from family or other people
Wanting a new start
Disassociating yourself from someone with the same surname.

You may never know for certain.
