Canadian WW1 records are brilliant Foggy - they charge but they contain a huge amount of info.

One thing that came up this afternoon though was confirmation that the eldest child was born just two weeks after MIL's parents married. That made her smile. "Do you think that's the right date?" she asked. "Oh, yes" I said. "They cut that a bit fine didn't they?" she said.

That's brilliant Mrs. Grumpy.

Although most of my searching is on scotlandspeople as all my ancestors are jocks, I have quite a few who went to Canada and the USA, and Ancestry are often giving me leads with their hints.
I think its a good system.

It was great Kitty - even OH was chuffed to bits ... but it was all down to Ancestry and those (sometimes) irritating hints!

Over the last couple of weeks I've been adding my three trees to Ancestry. I'm trying to make myself concentrate on just the main lines and add as much detail as possible.

As some of you will know, Ancestry comes up with all these "hints" which can be irritating but not always ...

Up pops my MIL's father's WW1 records! I'd not thought to look as he has a fairly common name and she'd never mentioned his WW1 activities at all. But, he has a reasonably unique middle name so there they were. Not brilliantly legible, but clear enough.

So this afternoon I trot round to MIL's with a copy for her. And in amongst all the paperwork (15 pages or so) are two letters written by her mother about the childrens' birth certs.

MIL's face was a picture. She's now 89, her mother died many years ago, her father died when she was 8. It was a lovely moment.

Thank you Ancestry! And isn't it lovely when these things appear without you having to search like mad!!!
