Did anyone else know about riots in UK

this last week or so? 27 people hurt including 3 policeman, last night alone.

Not a mention in the UK national BBC news, just brief mentions in the local roundup until today... oh dearie me, must be a *no news day*

It really sickens me the way the media chooses to concentrate on just one or two little things, items of news. I am sure if these riots were on the streets of Liverpool, Manchester, Cardiff or London, indeed any town or city on mainland UK it would have been headline news, all week.

I used to live there, so I always go into the news there..... just as I do for Leicester, Gloucester, Germany, Holland and Cyprus, lol.... they were all home to me once, so I like to keep up with what is happening there.

I have been watching it all week, there have been a lot of not nice incidents and bombs and things, trying to draw the police out so they can be attacked, according to the local BBC.

And this is on British soil.

I haven't heard anything Daff but to be fair to the "news" I haven't been watching/reading it in order to avoid the world cup football as much as possible.

*Wonders if the media could be sued under the trades description act.*

Lol Cat... it has been very hard to avoid football and tennis the last couple of weeks, hasn't it?

Of course, today is a day when there is often unrest in Northern Ireland, anyway, so the press would have been there waiting in the past.

Part of me is a bit miffed that problems in an area of my country that I loved living in, is now so studiously ignored by this fickle media of ours.... but then another part of me thinks, thank goodness the insensitive elements of the media with it's sensationalist reporting, has kept it's grubby little camera's and microphones and notebooks out of it. I believe it just psyches things up even more.

BBC Radio 4 reported them - I don't bother watching the news on TV or reading newspapers - as people have said - they're a bit too 'selective'.
Just watched the link, Daff - bl**dy thugs - whatever 'side' they're from!

Absolutely right, Maggie. And the world thought everyone from NI was like that once upon a time, and nothing could be further from the truth. I absolutely loved my time there (three years) and would move back without hesitation if the need arose... we did think very seriously about settling there before we bought this house, but hubby's folks were both poorly at the time.

There are mindless thugs wherever you go, spoiling it for the rest of us..

Well I succeeded mostly Daff :-)

I did hear about the marathon tennis match, on fb, although I wasn't particularly avoiding the tennis, just the football. I couldn't even tell you who was playing in the final re: football. I did hear the octopus predicted the right result though ;-)

Marching season again is it..

MrDaff Report 12 Jul 2010 17:01

Not just that, Hayley, but I think that is why the vul.... oops I mean our free and independent press have gathered there... they know there is always a flashpoint during the Marches etc.

And yes, Beverley, there needs to be something flashy and violent to feed the blood lust after the last few days. No... there has been loads of stuff going on there, and in Scotland, that have barely managed a byline over the last few weeks, whilst similar crimes elsewhere have been headliners.

Cat, Headlining at the moment... the octopus has announced his retirement!! To be found in a paella near you, lolol!! No, really, I kid you not!
