Dna matching

Is there anywhere in the UK where a Dna sample can be matched against a register of Dna. My wife has no idea who she is or the family she really belongs to. It is a long story. We had her brothers Dna done last year with a 40+ paternal test. There was no indication by the US testing people as to who where or what. Other than came from Africa about 2 million years ago and via Northern Europe somehow got to UK - No Help at all.

I don't think you can be tested to find a family, but rather you need to do some research, find a possible family link, then hopefully you might find a match between your wife and another family member.
Even then, success would depend on how close a link was found.
There is no general DNA database, as far as I know.

Hi John,

I just came across your post from a few months back - you can submit the results to y-base and varoius databases. You need to make sure that you adjust the results depending on what testing lab you used however. Rgds

Most of us came from Africa about 2 million years ago and via Northern Europe, so nothing unusual there.

As stated, the only way to get further is to match with someone else who has had a test.
