Can anyone on here please tell me what has happened to the private messages board. I usually contact members with whom I have made friends by just going to messages inbox and replying to their last message but since 7th July I have clicked on to the person I want to "speak" to just to be given a match we have/have not got and cannot get through to them. I have asked for help from Genes and they have replied they cannot find anything wrong, so what do I do please.

MBES, it isn't a messages board, it's your inbox, just like email.

Find a message from the person you want to send a message to, and click on the message title. When you read it, there is a button underneath that says "Reply". Click that and you get the box for replying. The message you're replying to will be underneath.

I wonder, was there a time when there was a ready-made box for replying and you didn't have to click a Reply button? There used to be on the discussion boards, maybe there was in Messages too, and that's what you're thinking of.

Here's a possibility -- are you looking at your Contacts list instead of your Inbox? In your Contacts list, stupid things will show for your "relation" -- your name, or their name, or some random person in your tree or their tree. (At the moment, and for a few months, mine has shown my grx3 grandfather from Cornwall. Go figure.)

Put your mouse over Messages up top here. The list will appear. Click on Inbox.

If you want to find a message from a particular person, type Janey or Susan or whoever it is in the search box at the top. It will find you all messages from somebody by that name. (If you know their last name, just use that, and it will probably narrow it down better.)

Then click on one of the messages, and on the Reply button, etc.

I hope that's what you were asking!!

Oh, Ann -- you mean there's a problem with PMs that I have not yet experienced? Yay, I shall look forward to it.

I've been getting a lingering white envelope on the Messages button, but so far it isn't permanent ...

And MBES, forgive me for thinking you'd lost the plot. ;)

Ok i think i get what you mean

If you go into your contacts & search for the person you are after
Click on their name & it will show you when you had 1st contact.......On there too you'll see a Purple button which says Compose Message...Click on that & you'll get the box to type your message

Hope thats what you were after

Julie :o))

Thank you Janey, yes, that is what usually happens, but not since the 7th.

I will try what you suggest Julie and report back.

May, when you get to the person you want to send a message to, instead of clicking their name, click the last message (the bit where it says re), this will take you to a box where you can reply.

MayBlossomEmpressofSpring Report 15 Jul 2010 15:54

Thanks for all your suggestions ladies. I went into my threads and found the person I wanted, clicked on their name and the message box came up so I have sent a message and when she replies maybe things will get back to normal.

I haven't been on line for a few days, so now I'm off to find the GReaders review of the latest books, bear with me Ann.

No problem for me Ann, will just keep my eyes open for the request for reviews, doesn't pay to go off line for a few days does it? miss all that is going on, if I do it again I shall have to come on and ask "What's new" or"Tell me all the gossip"

My message box above, doesn't show the white envelope when a message comes in. I just have to go in at random and check...and hey ho, there are some there................grrrrrr

MrDaff Report 15 Jul 2010 16:23

Yes, and then, when you have opened them all.... the white envelope clicks on and won't go off. presumably until I get another, and then it goes off.... wmsl... how fickle!
