Melanie Hill took over from Gilly after series 5 I think and yes, she was married to Sean Bean for a while.

I used to love the programme.

I think it was the actress Melanie who was married to Sean Bean, she was in bread, did she take over the role of Aveline?

Was it the other one who played Aveline that was married to Sean Bean?

Yes RIP, she was a lovely actor. Some sources put her age at only 50.

Bread's star Aveline dies at 54
July 16, 2010 |By: Sarah Dean

The actress who played Aveline Boswell in 1980s sitcom Bread has sadly passed away at the age of 54 from a suspected heart attack.

Gilly Coman won a cult following for her role as wannabe model Aveline. She starred in five series of the Liverpool based show and featured in one of Bread's most memorable moments.

Her dramatic red hair, stockings, short skirts and killer heels all added to the fantastic character she played.

More than 21million people watched Catholic Aveline marry Protestant vicar Oswald in 1988 - a bigger UK audience than the World Cup final.

Last night tributes poured in for Gilly, who quit acting ten years ago to bring up her four children with her photographer husband in Wirral, Merseyside.

Bread creator Carla Lane told The Sun: "She was brilliant and amazingly funny. The way she dressed up in those heels and walked down the street represented Bread."

Gilly also appeared in hit soaps Coronation Street, Brookside and Emmerdale and The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous.

Lifelong friend Jane Joseph said: "Gilly told me when she went to her first audition she dressed the part and that is how she got it."
