Hi all,

I'm going on holiday in a few weeks and there will be no internet service available. I'll need to go back to the dark ages and buy an external modem for my laptop and find a dial-up service.

Any advice and recommendations gratefully received.

Thanks,

Rose

I heard from a friend you can buy pay as you go internet, it's a dongle thingy. Have you looked into this sort of thing.

Shelly,

Is that with dial-up? Last time I had to use that it was 5 years ago. Think I used Virgin that time.

Try T Mobile ,you can get a pay as you go dongle ,that is pretty quick and gives good coverage in most areas of Britain,Fred.

To be honest. I wouldn't touch a T Mobile pay as you go dongle. We used one at the beginning of this year when we were changing phone and internet providers - signal was dreadful and we were permanently losing connection. A friend used one as well while he was running a pub on a temporary basis and didn't want to tie himself in to a 12 month contract - he had the same problems.

To be fair we are both in North Wales so perhaps coverage is bad in this area.

Thanks Fred and Libby.

I will need to check coverage maps.

Libby,

The coverage checker is here. It says "good" for the postcode I entered. There is no 2G coverage though.

I would be interested to see if it says poor for your location.

Hi Rose

Have just checked the t-mobile coverage for my postcode - says it is good but they could not give speed info. Conwy area.

I also checked friends postcode - coverage is limited. Anglesey. Menai Bridge.

To be honest I spoke to a number of people locally when we were using the dongle and they all experienced the same problems as us. It was a waste of time after 3pm until about 9pm, presumably this is the peak usage time.

My friend is now based at the other end of Anglesey, Holyhead and is now using an O2 dongle and he finds it much better. Location or provider?

Good luck.

Libby
