*clings to Rose's leg*

Aw, Rose, not you as well. Almost all my friends have quit. I've thought about it a few times but I've made some really good family tree contacts, so it's worth the money for that.

I look in most days and always look for your name.

Rose you must NOT leave - the piles of paper are quite happy like mine are jostling for space with their rellies in bulging folders, they feel they are together again................ anyway I've just renewed !

Just looked at your Poetry thread, I often take poetry books when visiting my mother, it is surprising once I start reading what she and some of the other ladies remember - it just takes a few words sometimes and they join in.

I will send you that link I mentioned a month or two ago - been busy over last couple of months ooop North but had lovely times!

It is like a disease, one person says they are not renewing and it starts a trend. So sad for the people who rely on the threads staying lively to keep them involved with the outside world.
Personally I don't let those who are 'not nice' bother me, I just ignore them but I have gained so many cyber friends and real friends on here that, despite having a life away from here, I won't leave. I can talk about birds and animals, exchange tips on card making and scrap booking, pick up recipes, learn about other countries and learn about writing as well as getting FH tips and help. where else would I get all that on one site?

please don't think I'm going because of any arguments or anything like that ( you should know by now someone telling me to get lost has always made me stay, out of stubborness lol) , there's a general malaise about the boards now, which has sent me over to records etc for a lot of the time doing look ups...but that isn't attributable to anyone in particular, just a wariness that is tiring to me I find... a bit like watching too many soaps, you find the general 'worry' rubbing off lol.

When it spills over into real life, that's when you realise the futility of continuing to contribute to this site. Unfortunately, and for whatever reason, peoples private lives have been made public, disrupted and immense grief caused by arguments - on a family history website, lol

I know of no other place on the internet where this has happened!

Having to watch your back all the time and being unable to use the site for the purpose for which it was intended is really not much fun at all. I personally only rejoined after the last fiasco in order to do some follow up research and now that it's done, it's offski again. So good luck to those who are going, good luck to those who are not and a plague of pizza eating wasps on those who are unable to distinguish between real and cyber life.
:-)

Rambling Report 24 Jul 2010 14:34

I kind of differ perhaps with you on one point Eldrick...in that personally I don't ever delineate between 'cyber life' and 'real life' in terms of who I am lol... what you 'see' on one is what there 'is' in the other... ( 'what you see is what you get'...but it's not all there is lol) if there was something in 'real life' I didn't want to tell you ( you as a general term) I wouldn't tell you on here either and vice versa. If i did give 'personal' details it would be because it is irrelevant who knows them ( open book me) .

I do think though that it is very easy to forget this is a web site, not a meeting of jolly good friends who will never let you down... it ( the internet...and I have seen some other sites the same) lulls you into a false sense of security maybe ....and then kicks you in the teeth lol.

Good luck if you potter off too :))

People's private lives have been made public on this site not solely in recent times. It may happen again in the future. There are sad people about.

Ann I shall still do that :)) I can still read the thread and pass on ideas ...and I certainly won't be going off that until I have sorted out 'Martin', read what happens to 'Adam', 'The Convent' etc etc ...I'm there for the long haul with the WG :))
