It's more than frustrating, Jill

the whole of civilian staff of the police force up here are under notice of redundancy (that'll be civil servants with cushy numbers of course).

This government is unprincipled, not to mention unelected. They should all bow their heads in shame.

I've never been so ashamed to be British in all my years.

grrr

It's so frustrating Sue.

I've heard stories about headteachers in tears over this news - how to tell the kids, the staff, the parents that their school is not going to be rebuilt.

Makes me want to spit!

DO NOT get me started on that one, Mrs Grumpy!

The rubbish put out by this government about cash spent on consultants in the BSF programme ignores the fact that any building needs consultants - that'll be architects, quantity surveyors and the like.

Don't apologise for your rant, Jill. Keep ranting. Loudly.

If there was a library to be run near me I'd be happy to do it - but they can pay me for the privilege. Sheesh ... who's going to support all the redundant librarians when the volunteers move in?

Isn't it bad enough that they've cancelled the Building Schools for the Future programme? OK there were faults with that whole thing and I'm certain it could have been better organised and a lot cheaper, but an awful lot of people (builders etc) will be out of work as a result and what message are we giving our children being taught in ramshackle old buildings?

Sorry ... rant over!

Jill

Hi Sue,

I must admit if there was a library to be run I'd volunteer to do it, I always wanted to be a librarian when I was young...

It is that Joy, and at the end of it a golden handshake, various directorships, lecture tours and a book deal lol...hard life .

Hi Rose

I thought the same when I watched it. I also caught the bit about "rolling the state back" by appointing a civil servant to help a "community" run a local pub.

The points were well made that (a) the state had never run a pub in the first place and (b) the help of a civil servant would be "invaluable" -not!

(please note, I'm volunteering to post this - that'll be me being part of the big rip off, then)

Maybe he could make a gesture Joy ( lol sure he would ! ) and just take the national minimum wage for the first year...after all he gets the house too :) and he's guaranteed to keep his job for the next five years...

that?

and a more serious point ( just watching it) ...if David Cameron is so keen on his Big Society idea...people volunteering to run libraries, village pubs and the post offices etc...why doesn't he volunteer to run the country for free? :) and 'share in our pain' ;)
